Derek Ng went to Bishop Gorman. And got a kick out of it.š Perhaps he helped with the recruiting. Worcester being closer to civilization might have helped, also. The softball season in Vermont must be very short.

The softball season in Vermont must be very short. Her "highlights" according to Holy Cross media relations - Transfer following one season at Middlebury.
- Appeared in 10 games for the Panthers including eight starts.
- Posted three hits, two RBI and a run scored with 18 putouts and 19 assists in the field.
- Was 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored against Northern Vermont-Lyn (4/26/23).
So a player who had one hit in her nine other games for a D3 team that went 18-17 and 7-11 in NESCAC play gets a chance to play D-1 softball? Ok...

A HS classmate of mine was recruited to play baseball at Middlebury...and blew it because he got senioritis and failed an English class 2nd trimester.
He ended up going to Northeastern and doing really well for himself, but missed out on playing college baseball.

The Northern Vermont game put her on the map big time. Go Cross Go!

Can't speak to their softball team but Middlebury is one of the top schools in country academically, right? Had a co-worker/friend who graduated from there along with her lawyer (gasp!0 husband. She's a lawyer too. I gave her a dispensation.

This is an example of a minor sport at HC pulling it's weight for the college by reeling in a high academic student. Up the D-1 participatory model. Sis boom bah.š

This announcement of a softball transfer says it all about our 'supposed' D.1 athletic program when it comes to minor sports. Is it really worthy of a headline when this young lady played in 10 of 35 games last season and batted .130 for a D.3 school ?

Softball annually "announces" it's incoming freshmen players, so I'm not surprised they "announced" a transfer, no matter where she did her earlier work.

Agreed. It's probably safe to say that anyone playing in the PL or Ivy League isn't doing it for the softball. Plus my understanding is she's a 3B/SS and last year's starting 3B and lead off hitter, Jessica Mott, is a Senior. Might be looking at her as a potential replacement down the line.

PLUS, she'll be playing against lesser competition. You know, the Patriot League stinks in all sports, right?

Probably true that the NESCAC plays better softball than most of the D. PL

Probably true that the NESCAC plays better softball than most of the D. PL The PL collectively is actually a pretty good conference for softball, at least by northeastern standards. Last season it ranked ahead of the A10, Ivy League, MAAC, America, East, and NEC, among others.

ā¦.Thanks to BU and most years Lehigh - if this young lady is being depended upon this season Iād be surprised But it takes more than two teams to have the conference ranked ahead of all of those other northeastern leagues. The next three in the patriot league are all better than the middle of the pack teams in the Ivy League or the MAAC or America East or NEC.
