Foley is right as usual. MM can't win with her own players. Every player on the team has known only one head coach (except for Callie who showed up not looking especially well coached after two years at Memphis then improved under HC coaching) and the staff has turned over, so much credit goes to Coach Magarity for every player and three straight years with a banner. Down boy, his point was her winning record with all her own recruited players. He specifcally said she did well with the prior coaches kids. Cara, Allen & BPC were either BG or in the case of BPC AM's recruits. Other than Flans, I think it is still unclear about her recruits. Both Berger & Foreman have taken at least a half step back this year. Next year will tell the tale,

McCormack is the key Sunday - if she plays like she did tonight I think that opens up a lot of offensive options. What do we think the crowd will be Sunday ? Has there ever been a capacity crowd for a women’s game ? 754 tonight

True, but things went sideways at the end

Agree that Magarity has benefited from a strong senior class and deserves credit for getting the most out of them. But one can also point to Avery L who carried the team during MM’s 21-22 season and obviously MM inherited her and did a good coaching job that season

Another ho-hum game for Flanagan - 12p (4-8), 5a, 1to. In the last five games, she's averaged 11p (18-34), gone 16-22 from the line, and racked up 23 assists with just five turnovers.
I think we sometimes take for granted how consistently good she is.

I think she's done a great job coaching, I'm just a little uncertain about the recruiting. Next year they are likely to fall off a bit. Who knows where their offense is going to come from.

Both Berger & Foreman have taken at least a half step back this year. Next year will tell the tale, This is a dominant senior class, the most impactful three were inherited by MM and all three made big contributions to the three straight banners, true. I guessed that Foreman and Berger received good coaching from Coach Gray and the departed recruiting coordinator but that's just a guess as to why they seemed to contribute more last season. Donnelly's limited contributions are health related I believe. The current freshmen haven't lit a fire yet. Cahalan is getting opportunity but the eight man rotation of non-freshmen has been remarkably durable health wise so maybe we have some growing unseen talent in the freshman class. Next year's senior class will be a drop off. I hope MM isn't a Kenny Rogers fan.

Best stat The rotation of bigs and double teams held Lex T. to 6 field goal attempts, which was 7th highest on Loyola.

T&G story
'Our job is not done': Holy Cross women's basketball rolls past Loyola and into Patriot League final Jennifer Toland Worcester Telegram & Gazette
WORCESTER — Before the start of this season, Holy Cross senior captains Bronagh Power-Cassidy, Janelle Allen and Cara McCormack sat down and wrote down their goals for the year. At the top of the list was winning the Patriot League Tournament championship on their home court.
After a 72-54 win over Loyola in the tourney semifinals Thursday night at the Hart Center, the Crusaders will have that chance. Top-seeded HC will host No. 3 Boston University at noon Sunday in a rematch of last year’s fantastic final, won by Holy Cross, 66-61, at BU.
The Crusaders (19-12) will try to become the first team to repeat as Patriot League champions since Navy won three straight tournament titles from 2011-13.
“To give ourselves the opportunity to do this and, as seniors, have (Sunday’s game) be our last game in the Hart means everything,” Power-Cassidy said. “It’s the biggest game of our season and a dream to be able to have the opportunity to do it, but our job is not done.”
HC will be seeking its 13th PL tourney title and an automatic NCAA Tournament berth.
With the win over Loyola, Holy Cross improved to 14-2 at the Hart Center this season and tied the program record for most home wins in a season.
“We have a lot of heart and drive and fire,” Allen said. “The Hart is an easy place to play in when you’re doing well.”
HC’s other sports teams, including the football team, which wrapped up its first day of spring practice, cheered on the Crusaders.
“It was amazing to see how many came out to support us,” Power-Cassidy said. “Their support means everything.”
No. 4 seed Loyola was one of the two teams to beat Holy Cross at the Hart Center this season. In a 60-47 win on Feb. 3, the Greyhounds held the Crusaders to 28% shooting from the field.
In Thursday’s win, Power-Cassidy scored 20 points to lead four HC players in double figures and the Crusaders made 50% of their shots, including 8-15 from 3-point territory.
“I thought we were really aggressive,” Holy Cross coach Maureen Magarity said. “We were getting to the rim, not just our posts, but our guards, too, and we were trying to get Bronagh more touches around the rim. We did a nice job with that balance.”
McCormack, who sank two clutch 3s in the quarterfinal win over Bucknell on Monday, scored 16 points and was 4-6 from 3-point range. Sophomore Kaitlyn Flanagan added 12 points and Allen 11.
“We have so many weapons,” McCormack said. “Janelle getting doubled and Bronagh getting doubled really opens up people and makes it easy to hit open shots.”
McCormack set HC’s fiery pace to start and the Crusaders did a nice job getting out in transition while building a 10-point halftime lead. Loyola pressed in the second half, but Magarity was pleased with how her team handled it.
Power-Cassidy had a team-high 8 rebounds, senior Callie Wright had 7 and junior Lindsay Berger and sophomore Simone Foreman 6 each.
Like in the Bucknell game, HC did a great job defending the post and held Loyola junior star forward Lex Therien to 8 points and 7 rebounds. In Loyola’s quarterfinal win over Lehigh, Therien set a PL women’s tournament record with 23 rebounds.
Holy Cross and Loyola met for the first time in a PL tourney game. The Greyhounds finished 16-15.

Next year will tell the tale, Foreman took a dip mid season but I think the last several games she's returned to the level she was at last year, at least. Berger's off and on, that's for sure. Last night I think she was solid, save for one layup that goes down in the box score as a missed shot ....but on tv it looked like she got grabbed or pushed and it wasn't very subtle. For the second consecutive game, HC did not take a foul shot until Q3.

Those refs were bad. And it would seem they would be among the top 6-10 available. I had the sound muted, ( thanks to motor mouth Gale) but it certainly seemed that none of the three knew the rule about interfering with the inbounder.

Foreman took a dip mid season but I think the last several games she's returned to the level she was at last year, at least. The rebounding and defense has been consistently strong, to her credit - but the scoring dip was more of a plunge.
Foreman in PL Play
Games 1-8 (HC, 7-1). 9ppg (31-59, 53%)
Games 9-15 (HC, 3-4). 2ppg (3-27, 11%)
Games 16-20.(HC, 3-2) 8ppg (14-32, 44%).
Would like to see her attacking rather than hoisting (career 24% from deep), and haven't seen the signature drive and pull-up jumper for some time.

The call was made immediately, but it seemed as if none of the three knew what the penalty was. Eventually they got it right-a 2 shot tech.

Has there ever been a capacity crowd for a women’s game ? Yes. Was fortunate enough to be one of the SRO crowd of 4,000 in January 2000 vs. UConn. Electric for the first five minutes, great atmosphere throughout, even though we got smoked. Kinne/Jutras led team.

I think you get a warning the first time if you just cross the plane. In this case, she hit the hand and/or the ball which is an automatic tech.

Lex looked lethargic from the get-go. It was like her sister Ava ate the last of the Wheaties in the morning. I was curious about that. Were they trying to moderate her aggressiveness to avoid fouls? She fouled out anyway.

She fouled out anyway. I'd suggest she was more frustrated. LU, other than than their run at the end of the 3rd into the fourth basically hit nothing from the outside. HC was not punished for their double & times triple team. And to be honest, got the benifit of these refs letting them play. Lexi got the worst of at least 3 50/50 calls where HC could have been easily had the foul called on them.
