He has been playing through some pain for some time and that's all I can/will say. Getting back to protect against a fast break is CWC's philosophy. The only time we get an O board is when our player is in close for a layup, misses and comes back to him or a long 3 that caroms far out from the rim. A number of us have posted about this before. We are essentially conceding all offensive boards except by pure luck. While I disagree with that philosophy (I agreed when Crucis posted previously why not have 3 head back on D and 2 crash the boards), I am not the coach and Carmody is. He may also be concerned about players picking up fouls going after O boards. While I was undefeated as a CYO coach, his experience Trumps (sorry) mine.

-20 rebounding again, will not get it done against any team. Maybe its lack of personnel, but I will never understand this logic. A rebounding margin like that has far more to do with coaching strategy than personnel/talent. Coach Carmody's system calls for a finesse style of play that essentially relies solely upon making more shots than the other team -- a strategy that anyone with a clue killed Milan Brown for. /////////////////// By the way, anyone know how much we're paying Joe Scott? A great investment in another voice to repeat the same philosophy as Coach Carmody, and we'll figure out defense and rebounding at a later date....

You have returned after a loss. Shocking. Our d has significantly improved as has our underneath OOB success from last season. My guess is that Joe Scott may have something to do with both. He is the only coaching change.

If not, do you think we are going to magically turn that around any time soon?

Missed the game today but have a pretty good idea what happened from the posting. Is there a link to watch the replay?
Someone suggested CLS should get some run. I believe Coach lost confidence in him during last game against Crappy Laffy when he caught a rebound and fell down. Took him out immediately. MZ 8 minutes two assists and a TO with zero points. Neither seem capable of contributing much.

PB is so much more of an offensive asset than is AT it isn't funny.

I think the team is fun to watch when they are playing well; when they are not.....not so much.
I've just developed my own NADPom metric: (opponents zone D + 30 vs. 35 second shot clock) * PL opponents' familiarity with HC = Offensive struggles.
I do also wish BCarm would tweak the offensive rebounding philosophy just a bit, but I'm not counting on that happening. He is now giving a Ziggy a regular turn in the rotation, but I also wish he'd stick with him just a tad longer. We've seen what he can do during first semester last year; somehow they have to help get him over whatever this hurdle his that is holding him back. It would help so much to have someone who could come off the bench and provide some offense.

I do also wish BCarm would tweak the offensive rebounding philosophy just a bit, but I'm not counting on that happening. The much more serious problem, I think is the poor defensive rebounding. Holy Cross is getting less than 70% of the possible rebounds from opponent misses - or looked at another way, opponents are getting 30%+ of the rebounds when they miss. Either way, we are the worst team in the PL in defensive rebounding %, and in the bottom 15% of D1. There is a strategic reason for not hitting the offensive boards, but there is no such reason for failing to rebound defensively.

Vivid evidence of Carmody's lack of confidence in MZ occurred in the Lafayette game when MZ checked in with about 8 minutes remaining and HC up 30 points Lafayette scored 5 quick points and MZ was immediately pulled. Why MZ and CLS wouldn't have gotten some significant time in a game like that is confusing. Would have liked to see how this team fared with Hahn and Kostecka.

I was one of Mitch Hahn's biggest fans and have not a shred of doubt he would have been a huge difference maker for the Crusader team. I wish him well despite his obvious error in judgment on leaving Mt. St. James.

When your top recuit in 2 of last 3 years transfers out, you have voids to fill and we have not done that yet. Hopefully a healthy Perkins and the class of five, will do that

Hahn's in a good system for himself, obviously; and had he stayed in Worcester, would have been as well.
Not much of a rebounder (3.9 a game); would have fit in well here in that regard.

Hahn's getting about 6 boards per 40 minutes, nearly as many as Malachi (who leads Holy Cross). Hahn's 22 offensive rebounds would tie him for the lead at HC - not bad for a player who has taken 60% of his shots from three this season.

We simply don't box out. We won't be successful grabbing defensive rebounds when we just all hop around for the ball and it bounces around and hope to get lucky. We have to aggressively look for a man when the shot goes up or rebounding will continue to be an issue. It still isn't occurring, so you will continue to have to complain about rebounding.
We shot something like 55% from the free throw line? D1 collegiate athletes can't hit free throws, and it is embarrassing.
This is basic stuff. Beating a zone is a sophomore-level basketball lesson... particularly for a team that likes to hoist up 3 pointers like we do. I'm not impressed with CBC.
