Outside of Big East Royalty, UConn, Villanova with some in/out temporary teams the Big East seems to be in decline. Most of the lower level teams are a mere afterthought. And none more so than Georgetown. Maybe it's time for the Hoyas to ditch their big time illusions and join the PL. TBT there is little interest in the Hoyas in DC. GTown is a high academic university and would best compete w/other high academic schools. The PL or IL in all sports would be a perfect landing spot. The G-Town in the BE was from a different time in a different space a long, long time ago. It is time for the Hoyas to move on. This investment in nil and Cooley could possibly be the last roll of the dice. See you in 4-5 years to discuss further.

Father Brooks in fact did accept Davidson. They were a charter member of the football league, dropping our after a couple of seasons. As was Bill & Mary; but they were out before league play even started. Bill and Mary got their comeuppance when Mark Duffner '75 returned for a visit in 1986.

Georgetown is interesting in that regard....more and more, it seems their hoop success was a product of John Thompson and their level of play when the Big East was created. I mean, they lost to us in hoop this year.
I don't know but my guess is they don't have much of a subway alumni in the DC-area....much like DePaul doesn't in Chicago today.
My guess is Cooley is going to struggle there.

Thinking more about the 2024-25 OOC slate.
Last year we had 12 D1 OOC games, which included an MTE (three games). For argument's sake, let's assume there will be 12 D1 games we are looking to fill. Here's an educated guess at the schools we'll see in the OOC:
Harvard - This is an absolute lock. Couldn't tell you the last time they weren't on the OOC schedule.
Siena - played them each of the last six years (not including corona year). Guessing they're back in the mix.
Maine - Likely owe them a return game.
CCSU - I think we'll get a return game.
Quinnipiac - Likely owe them a return game.
Sacred Heart - Always a staple. They've been on every OOC schedule (with the exception of one) dating back to 2007-08.
UMass - Bit of a guess here. Ran into Frank Martin at Logan a week or so ago, and he mentioned wanting to get something going with HC. He mentioned being friendly with HCDP.
I'd expect three buy-games, given that we had three last year (BC, St. John's, Georgetown). Could see the BC game turning into a semi-regular game.

The Holy Cross game with PC could be in a bit of jeopardy. Creighton dropped out of the Battle for Atlantis to play in a Las Vegas NIL event. The Friars have in turn taken their place in Atlantis and dropped out of the Mohegan Sun tournament. The Battle for Atlantis has far better competition - Arizona, Davidson, Gonzaga, Indiana, Louisville, Oklahoma, and West Virginia. The Mohegan tourney had UMass, BC, and Temple. As I indicated earlier in this thread, PC had concerns about its SOS and this will very much help address it. PC has to now scramble to rearrange its OOC schedule as the dates of the tournaments are different. The date that had been originally set for the game with HC might be affected.

Attendance at the Hart Center dropped when we joined the Patriot League. Now is the time to look into possibly joining the A-10 a real good league and the fans will come back.
Let's face it, the Patriot League does nothing for the basketball program, it hurts in recruiting and attendance, even the students stay back in the dorms.

Is that better or worse than what we are now? (Not a condescending question. I truly don’t know.)

Could we take PC's spot at Mohegan?

They know a VW Beetle full of fans will follow the team down Rte. 395. It would be great to slide into PC's slot but I have a fuzzy recollection that HC hasn't drawn well at Mohegan and PC was probably counted on to bring the most fans so maybe the Casino loosens the purse strings to provide a guarantee to a team with a bigger following who will hopefully play the slot machines before and after the games.

Is that better or worse than what we are now? (Not a condescending question. I truly don’t know.) A matter of personal opinion. For me, for the last decade or so, mostly through our own incompetence, HC has been a bottom feeder in the lowly Patriot League. Probably better to be a bottom feeder in a better league. Going back to the Coach Brown teams, HC was a middle of the road team in the lowly patriot league that almost always found a way to lose in the play-offs. I think that is better than being a bottom feeder for 30 years in the A-10. More hope in the Patriot League to at least get to a Colgate level (it hurts to type that). In theory none of our league rivals have athletes that couldn't get into HC. In the A-10, pretty much everyone will have rosters of kids that wouldn't get past admissions. It's hard to punch out of your weight class. It's harder with one hand tied behind your back
