Although his profile lists his college as Wyoming, we all know Ayir is a Crusader. Figure he deserves his own thread. SNY provided short synopses of each UDFA on the Giants, including Ayir: Wyoming WR Ayir Asante Asante, who also played three years at Holy Cross, is undersized but showed some big play abilities in his lone season at the Division I level as he averaged almost 18 yards per catch and scored seven touchdowns. Asante also has some kick return experience. sny.tv/articles/giants-undrafted-free-agents-could-impact-2024

L/S and the rest of us know that. He was gigging SNY for their not knowing.
Guessing they also know but simply a poor choice of phraseology.

Ayir has been having a pretty good OTA period for the Giants so far. He has a long way to go to make the roster, but he's been getting a shout-out by reporters in most of their practices.

Looks like Ayir has been doing a lot of return work in camp with the Giants (punts and kicks).
I'd imagine that's going to be his best shot at making the team, though I do think he's fighting an uphill battle at the moment

Listened to Pat Leonard's 'Talkin Ball Live" Giant's Podcast. The podcast was last night. Pat Leonard is the NY Daily News Beat Writer. On his Podcast he responds to questions through the Chat feature. He received a question - "Who do you think is the most underrated player on the offensive and defensive side of the ball".
He mentions Ayir Asante as his offensive player. He does not think he will be a huge impact player but he is getting "a lot of run" - mostly returning punts - where he is learning - but shows a lot of burst. Playing mostly with the 3rd team offense at WR. Giants seem to like him, Of course Leonard mentions he is from Wyoming.
Here is a link to the podcast - it is a long podcast - he mention Asante at about the 35 minute mark.

When it comes to the NFL, if you can make it anywhere you can make it in New York. This is a good opportunity for Ayir.

Rumblings from a Giants board that usually has some inside info is that Asante may be on track for the last WR spot on the roster. 🙏

I would be willing to bet (but probably not a lot) that Ayir's floor is the practice squad with NY. But I think he has a legitimate shot to make it as a return man/slot receiver.
He has a nice spring from basically everything I could via beat writers, etc.

Ayir has been working at both PR and KR in camp for the Giants. Will probably be his best chance to crack the roster, but with the changes to the kick off rules I have no idea how the competition will play out.

Not many Super Bowl quarterbacks return kicks......... Following Matt's career over the next few years is going to be fascinating, beginning in five weeks or so. He's like Gordie regarding all of the things he can do on a gridiron, but with NFL size. As a fan I hope he starts at QB and touches the ball on every offensive play but he has backup skills if he needs them.

He's the backup returner right now, though their PR last year is currently hurt, so he could be #3 in the depth chart.
I think he has a decent shot at the practice squad, but I'd be really surprised if he makes the 53 as things stand right now.

If he completes his FB journey with a Masters degree from Wyoming, a couple of years of practice squad pay and three or four game checks, he will be a heck of an attractive candidate for any job, three years out of HC.
As a relatively moderately compensated returner/special team "hands team"/back up receiver/emergency DB he could last a lot longer with periodic opportunities to break through to be a regular contributor. Just keep the faith and enjoy every minute.

Another entertaining post by LS, who has projected quite the professional journey in and out of football for Ayir thru the next 5 years or so

Kalif also started by bouncing around several teams before finding himself a home, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Ayir follow a similar trajectory (at least to a roster spot).
He also just took a KR for a TD in a joint practice with the Jets.
