Saw HS tournament games there. Have a memory of very dim lighting which made the place feel decrepit. Feel admiration for Northeastern over fifty years later when I see the arena on TV or streaming and it is bright and gleaming. I didn't read the link yet but the location is valuable so maybe they can build several floors high and get more utility for the school and community.

Northeastern's new digs will be 290,000 gross square feet, with an arena for ice hockey and hoops, and a field house for other sports.
The foundation for Matthews had begun to crumble, so beyond saving.

Just read the announcement. Turns out Fitton Field being in a flood zone is less bigly than Mathews Arena sitting on unstable and toxic ground. It doesn't appear they will be building up. NU will have a bigger arena than Harry Agganis Arena at BU, but they aren't factoring in Case Gym "the roof" basketball court used by BU M&W BB teams seating 1800 or the Walter Brown arena/rink below it seating 3806, the home of BU women's hockey. It turns out Case Gym is currently a great size for the BB teams with chairback seats on both sides and no end zone seats behind the baskets. goterriers.com/facilities/case-gym-the-roof-/17goterriers.com/facilities/walter-brown-arena/14

WBA is being renovated this upcoming season and the Women's Hockey program is playing at Agganis.

WBA was an echo chamber, IIRC. Hope that's part of their reno.
Does anyone recall if HC basketball played a game at Agganis? I recall something about BU stating they'd play all their conference games there when they joined the league....but maybe I'm misremembering.
BU did buy a floor for WBA when Pitino was coaching; played a few games there then phased that out. I did see Durfee with the older Herren play Cambridge there in the late 80s, so they did keep the floor a while.

Funny, I clicked on the link before reading what you wrote, and the first thing I did when I opened it was count the rows of seating on the sideline and end-zone, That's ridiculous - for both sports!

The opening rounds of the America East Tournament in 2003 was at WBA and then the final was at Case since they went to the on campus home for the championship game. I know I was at BU's Aggainis Arena for the 2011 America East final against Stony Brook with 3845 fans and the terrible 2014 Patriot League final between BU and American where no-one could hit a shot only drew 2633 on a weeknight.

I have seen URI play BU at both Agannis and The Roof at WBA. Agannis is a beautiful facility, probably the nicest on campus venue in New England. I have also seen Rhody play Northeastern at Matthews Arena. It is a relic of the past with few amenities. There is no concourse and the only way to get around the sidelines is a narrow aisle at the top of each level. The wall this aisle abuts is the exterior of the building. Entrances, bathrooms, and concessions are at each basket/net end. I enjoyed my visit imagining all the history that had taken place there.

I remember a couple of games: one when AK34 and Andrew Beinert were both playing (maybe the Kearney year?), and another (in a bad snowstorm) where HCFC45 and I (and I think purplenurple, too) were part of a crowd of 15-20 fans. That may have been BU's first year in the PL (I know Dudz was playing).

During the Willard years before BU joined the PL, there seemed to be tight competitive OOC games each year including a see-saw overtime battle that had all the twists and turns that makes college basketball so great.

Remember that game, it was part of a WTAG doubleheader (or I was listening to a BU station followed by Mr. E. from our nation's capital); HC beat BU in hoops followed by an OT win in football vs Georgetown.

Since we are talking about BU, they announced five doubleheaders at Agganis for Men's and Women's Hockey this upcoming season.
