About 5 minute video on how Providence is in with both feet and ready to compete with the big boys. Will be interesting to see how long they can hang with the big state U's in this NIL race

AD Napolillo is my dentist's first cousin and gets him courtside seats whenever he wants to go (but he's more of a PC hockey fan and is a PC grad).

This video puts the emphasis on PC teaching their athletes how to shill for themselves. It sounds more complicated than just being given a $40,000 check to sign and then getting a two grand direct deposit on the first of the month through graduation, or something like that.
If I could dribble like Ernie DiGregorio or rebound like Marvin Barnes I don't know if I'd want four years of hawking sweatshirts and glad handing at Dunkin Donuts. Maybe if HC plays PC their players will be so distracted shmoozing for NIL money we will have a chance for the upset.

I've heard directly from HC and we've posted and discussed before that Kit and company has a third party that was selected to help educate Crusader athletes on the NIL world. Not sure how much more extensive the PC thing is or that they are just choosing to more publicly hype what they are doing for the Friar athletes.

Some references to NIL are like this one which indicate the players have to actually promote/sell something to get NIL money and their ultimate compensation depends on them marketing themselves. Other articles focus on players just getting a big wad of cash as an enticement to transfer or to stay at a school. NIL is still young, evolving and fascinating.
Maybe superstars get the big wad but other than that a reserve might end up making more than a starter if he/she applies him/herself by taking the leads provided and working them hard.
An understandable position for a player might be to put initiative and enthusiasm into maxing out NIL earning possibilities over taking extra shots after practice or studying extra film.
How could a coach tell a kid to slow down on his entrepreneurial activities and hit the gym, film room or weight room more after practice instead?

Technically, I would think all NIL is promoting/selling something. A 3rd party is using your name/image/likeness for sales and you should be compensated for that. Now you can even participate in the process as opposed to Madden 2K football. Just getting handed a bucket of cash to transfer is allowable under NIL, but not sure that really is name, image, or likeness. I suppose the logic is that when someone posted a video of Singleton describing summer workouts, the school was using his image to promote the basketball team

Driving through Providence a few months ago, you would have seen a PC WBB player promoting one of the hospitals on a large billboard on 95 just after 195 interchange going south.

Once more: I. HATE. THE. NIL. I'm with you-I HATE the NIL and the portal and the other forces that are working together to destroy college sports. I also HATE the Designated Hitter and the incomprehensibly idiotic "man on second base in extra innings" rule. However, if I were managing a baseball team I would not refuse to use the DH and I would not elect to not put a player on second. In like fashion, HC must use the NIL judiciously and I will contribute some $$$ to that effort.

How could a coach tell a kid to slow down on his entrepreneurial activities and hit the gym, film room or weight room more after practice instead? At least for this adult, and his growing waistline, that's exactly what the real world after college encourages us-- and in most cases necessitates us-- to do.
