As they say (and I very much believe,) you don’t know much till the pads come on. However, if past is prologue you can at least get a sense of what incoming freshman already look, move AND THINK like a D1 football player. Early reports indicate 5/6 in this class check those boxes.

South Dakota State not in the top 10? That's seems odd. Thought I read a story the other day about how they are crushing it with current recruiting.

The above link is for incoming frosh of the 2024 class. What you have correctly read recently is SDSU currently ranked #1 by the recruiting services for the at least 10 commits they have received for this class (2025). They might have had a smaller class last cycle and were also in transition with Stig’s retirement. They will stay dominant with Rodgers.

Looks like only the freshman. Great outing to build camaraderie and get them engrained in the community early.

From the article: "The summer's going unbelievable," said captain and QB Joe Pesansky, "All the guys are back, everyone's working super hard, we go outside with the crew necks and the hats on, we're sweating, we're getting after it. It's great to see everyone working hard and getting better every day.""
I saw something on Twitter with them working out with winter hats on as well. I guess my question is "Why?" We have all heard about high schoolers doing summer workouts and dying from heat stroke. I realize these guys are in better shape and under tighter supervision as to fluid intake, etc., but I fail to see on a risk reward basis how this makes sense. I am willing to listen as to why this is a good idea.

There's a reason we've been such a strong second half team with Grautski as our strength coach. I trust him.

So, it is apparently part of heat acclimitization, which is a thing. From the limited reading I have done, I think that one advantage might be to make training in August more effective and productive. I do trust the coaching staff to monitor it. The one thing I worry about is the kid who overdoes it trying to impress.
I also get that suffering as a group is a part of building a team in a sport like football where one has to rely on everyone else to do their part for the team as a whole to succeed.

It’s very hard to over do it any longer. Grautski has them live monitored with the Catapault system and will interfere to dial the kid back if he doesn’t like the trends he’s watching. Happens all the time now.
