Mayor Bloomberg just hit JH with another whopper gift - this time 1 billion for financial aid to Med School students. Johns Hopkins University celebrated today's announcement by Bloomberg Philanthropies of a new gift of $1 billion to make Hopkins free for most medical students and expand financial aid for future nurses and public health pioneers, infusing these critical professions with top talent from all socioeconomic and geographic backgrounds and communities. For most students seeking an MD at Hopkins, the gift will cover the full cost of attendance, including tuition and living expenses such as rent. hub.jhu.edu/2024/07/08/johns-hopkins-investment-financial-aid-medical-students/Note:Back in 2018 he gave 1.8 Billion to transform undergraduate financial aid at JH. Also: He’s worth about 100B.

Mike is one of the great entrepreneurs of modern times. I first saw the Bloomberg terminal in action in the early 1990's when I was working at a major mutual fund complex. The terminal back then was great for doing all sorts of bond calculations--yield to maturity, yield to worst, spread to worst, etc. Over the years, the information on the terminal just kept expanding to include all sorts of commodity prices, futures, credit default swaps, options, etc. The terminal really revolutionized the the asset management business as well as the sell side (Wall Street). He also created thousands of well-paying jobs. A terminal subscription used to be about $2,000 per month and price increases were regular. In short, the Bloomberg LP is a quasi monopoly and a cash cow. Merrill Lynch was an early investor in his business. Sadly, that investment was jettisoned when ML ran into financial distress back in 2008. Glad to see this kind of philanthropy.

When Mike was a kid he took two buses and the subway to get to the Boston Museum of Science on Saturdays for a science program. He has been generous to the museum.

If you're interested in displacing your Bloomberg terminals in the middle and back office because you're sick of having few options and paying too much, I know a guy that can help out Mike already made enough!

All I know about Bloomberg is what I witnessed on TV during his mayoralty. He was serious, straightforward and usually right unlike the bloviating bs politicians prior & post on all sides. Mike was the only adult in the room. This is a character reference. If this statement is too political or offensive to some, I would have voted Mike for pope. I like Mike. If my statements are too political or offensive foe some I will readily delete.

Would love to see Mike and John's Hopkins adopt the children's hospital in Kiev and the maternity hospital that got bombed and help rebuild them with the latest resources.

Congratulations on beating the system. I love it when you can find something as good as the brand name for a lot less. I do think the Bloomberg TV channel and radio network are good quality compared to some of the stuff out there.
