From Dan S.'s column today:
Quiz: Name six Red Sox who started in left field for the American League All-Star team since Ted Williams retired in 1960
2 clues:
1. One player played left much less frequently than center for the Sox. 2. Another hated DS as much as any Boston athlete ever.

Obvious and most recent one is Manny.
Yaz and Rice are on there.
I don't think I'd have gotten this one, but clue number two helped -- "Jurassic Carl" Everett

I'm thinking Greenwell and Ellsbury, other person crossing my train of thought is Ellis Burks.
"Where's your curly haired boyfriend?"

I'm thinking Greenwell and Ellsbury, other person crossing my train of thought is Ellis Burks. "Where's your curly haired boyfriend?" I thought of both Greenwell and Ellsbury as well but it turned out neither was on the list. In fact, I was certain I had five of them before I looked and discovered I only had three.

Sorry. I was focussed the last sentence as I scanned the prior responses. Besides he could have meant Manny Alexander

Another clue: One player was once greeted by Bobby Orr who came out of the Green Monster to see him.

That's a nice curveball Dan threw on a couple of levels.
First of all, the player was Jackie Bradley (do I have to use Junior, there was no senior who played in the bigs). His one shining season, I guess. A Hall of Famer defensively who most of the time was challenging the Mendoza Line.
Second, he played 5% of his career in left (in Fenway in particular, that would have been a horrendous waste with the arm he had and the ground he covered) and played all his regular season games that year in center field. Moved over for that game w/Mike Trout in center.
The others were Yaz, Jim Ed, Manny, Jurassic Carl and Jason Bay (whose career cratered after he left Boston).

Which one did #4 come out of the left field wall to see, #8?

Jason Bay, who is from Canada. Had one good season in Boston (after Troy O'Leary) never heard from again

Jason Bay, who is from Canada. Had one good season in Boston (after Troy O'Leary) never heard from again Left the Sox on a 4 year 66 MIl contract and hit one more HR the rest of his career than he hit that one season with the Sox (37 to 36). He sort of had two good seasons in Boston...played 1/3 of a season with the Sox in 08 as well and his numbers with the Sox and on the season that year were also very good.

My 6 guesses:
1) Mike Greenwell 2) Manny Ramirez 3) Jacoby Ellsbury 4) Jason Bay 5) Johnny Damon 6) Ellis Burks
Carl Everett was REALLY good for 1 season, I think 2001, but I don't know if he would've had the popularity across the board to start an ASG...especially since Manny was the LF at the time.
With all respect to the 2003 and 2004 teams and all the years where Manny and Papi were together in the lineup, the most dangerous 3-4-5 in the Sox batting order since I've followed the game may have been Garciaparra-Manny-Everett in 2001/2002.

Who is the only pitcher in MLB baseball history to have over 100 wins, over 100 saves and over 100 holds. Hint: he could easily be on any fan's all "popular literature team" also.

Dennis Eckersley?

Good thought. Eck probably falls short on the holds as he was a starter and closer. Eckersley was a teammate of the correct player during one of his many stops. The player in mind also has a connection to your home state, not as a resident but in the popular literature angle.

I don't think a hold is considered an official stat by MLB. LaTroy Hawkins doesn't align with your hint, but he was around forever, started early on in his career, and was both a closer and middle reliever...so I'll guess him.

I'm not sure about relationship to the hint, but John Smoltz definitely had 100 wins and 100 saves. Don't know about holds.

As for the literary link, I'm assuming thats a Stephen King, and not a comic book, reference.
