Lafayette posted this video along with their hc and student athletes on the first page of their site - there is zippo on the HC site We're still the best known program in the league and co-champs from '23 and picked 2nd for '24 - I don't understand

Way more clicks as the link on the Lafayette site directs to their YouTube page where it was viewed only 195 times. The HC video has 7.3k plays on just Instagram.

Based on how tough Merrimack played us under Dan against our top flight coach Bob, perhaps I have higher expectations for the season than most. We lost perhaps 4 of our very best players in Jake Dobbs, Matt Sluka, Jalen Coker and C.J. Hanson but believe with Mr. Fuller and Shorter and Joe P under center, I believe a new offense might work out quite well for us. The experience some of the younger guys got last year will help us.
I think we will learn a lot about this team and how the season will go at the URI game.
I'm hoping we can pack the stadium in purple!!

We lost four of our starting OLineman. That's my biggest concern.

Understand and agree. My optimism overrides my concern. I have faith in what was our back-ups last season.
Not sure which coach, basketball if I recall, said that when there is a new coach, he/she automatically gains some wins just because the opponents from prior years haven’t seen the new offense and defense that is brought in. Not sure how that might translate to football or even if it is true, sure wasn’t when we transitioned from Carmody to Nelson!
In any case, if I can’t be optimistic before the first game, when can I? 🤷♂️

We lost four of our starting OLineman. That's my biggest concern. 100% this and CB on Defense. Jon Smith, Haskins and Spence were staples for so long at Corner and even a long time depth guy like Duchmein had to play last year with the injury to Devin. Guys like Eli, Comestro, Cam Jones etc have to take their games to an entirely new level and quick as Curran likes to bring pressure and CBs play a lot of man. Jumped out to me every year we played them. What will Coach BV’s influence look like alongside Curran’s aggressive instincts?

We'll soon see! Definitely agree. With URI a pre-season 8/16 (just below UNH) in the CAA we’ll be able to see quite a bit. If we beat them, my optimism for a better than .500 season goes way up.

One concept that makes mathematical sense is every rushing attempt that Sluka won't make for HC this season is a potential rushing attempt/dump off or screen pass to Fuller, plus we will have JP's cannon.

It is entertaining that the NEC holds their media day at MetLife Stadium and they are such a crap conference

Does where they hold their media day make that any less true?

The NEC isn't a crap conference. They give schools like Bryant, Merrimack, Stonehill a chance to move up to D-1. The staff and players at these schools give it their all without a lot of frills or extras. My hat is off to the whole league. Sacred Heart was a few seconds away from beating HC in the playoffs with less scholarships. I think at that time the PL had 60 and the NEC had 40 full scholarship equivalents, from memory.

45 scholi cap in NEC. About the median PL school equivalent during the “non scholi” era. I agree these coaches and players love football without many of the more glamorous amenities. Tough, gritty players. Several schools aren’t at the cap either. Again, when MC beat us they were still closer to the D2 cap of 36 scholies .

Fortunately for HC, the Coach that managed to be us with closer to 36 scholies is now on our side. With the ingenuity that he has displayed in the past, hope it will lead to a few surprises this season with the additional tools he now has on Mt. St. James. Hope he will save some for an enormous upset on 9/28/24.
