Watching the US vs Serbia this afternoon in Olympic competition reminded me of the HC game against the Yugoslavia national team in 1978. Was a fun game to watch with in the Hart Center.
The year before, 1977, on the Friday after Thanksgiving, under heavy police presence, HC played the Cuban national team at the Hart.
Other than HC vs St. Francis Xavier of Canada, in 2006, played at the Hart Center, and HCWBB playing against the Irish National team last summer, can anyone remember HC basketball playing in international competition?
Not counting the games in Belfast, on December 1,2 2017, as they were games against US college teams, Lasalle, Manhattan and Towson.

The men made a trip to Spain and the Netherlands(?) in 2007 or 2008.

Couple of important things happened in the hours after that game.
1. There was an ice storm and HC hoopster Greg Gaskins got in a car accident and broke his leg- out for the season. A guy that had come out of nowhere (walk-on) to be an important contributor. Kind of set the tone for that disappointing season. 2. HC beat BC in football

I think a few different "national" teams came to Hart in the 80's filling the roll of pre season exhibition. Some college all stars of that heritage. I remember the Irish national team coming and one of their players was recently graduated Kevin Greaney

With due respect to the late Greg Gaskins, he was VERY lucky to have survived that accident. The broken leg may have been the least of the threats to his wellbeing. May he rest in peace.

Greg attended Nativity School in DC then on to Gonzaga Prep, Holy Cross and an MBA from Amos Tuck at Dartmouth. Nativity School grads in Worcester will be helping the area for decades to come. I hope HC gets their share of grads from each class.

Might we have played the Puerto Rican national team when we played in that tournament down there in 2005?
KY75 may remember our game against Mississippi State in that tournament...

Another thing about the Cuba game: Vicens had fire in his eyes every second he was on the court.

Like every other game in which he played, if we’re being honest… I don't disagree, but I I think there was a "special" dislike for the Cubans - akin to his feelings toward Wilfred Morrison, Bob Carrington and Billy Collins.
