So 73 years after he graduated, Murphy was watching the HC team on a cold blustery day. Think about that.

He was a classmate of my uncle's and the father of one of my classmates.
If my often defective memory serves, my wife and I met him at a football game at Harvard maybe 10 or so years ago and believe he had both HC and Harvard attire on. I asked him why and he said his grandson played on the Harvard team but he played on the HC football team but never mentioned he was on the '42 team. Believe his wife or another family relative with him quietly told my wife on the side that he had and I did not make the mental connection with either my uncle or classmate until later.
Very nice guy.
R.I.P.
P.S. Yes, he was sitting a few rows ahead of me at the Lehigh game but was looking frail and did not want to bother him. I think td128 pointed him out to me.

I remember Mrs. Murphy and she was a lovely lady. Referred to him as "Edmund", not "Ed".
Said when he retired from teaching, Dracut HS begged him to stay on as football coach and sweetened the pot by installing lights* at their field so he'd be freed up on Saturdays. And, of course, he did, coaching until age 72.
* who's going to be the first to hit that one out of the park?

I think you'll see a lot more older coaches (60-75) in the upcoming years. Men and ladies that like coaching, are in good health and feel like retirement frees them up to really do the job right.
