Mike is now with the Tulsa Drillers, the Dodgers' AA farm club and is off to a hot start. He has played 3 of the first 4 games---2 at short and one at second, hitting 4 for 8 with a double, 3 walks and 2 RBIs. With his versatility and OBP (over .380 in his minor league career), he has a shot at The Show.

Mike is 5 for 14 batting .357 in the 4 games he has played this year. OBP is .471 as he has drawn three walks. Last year playing "A" ball he batted .278 had OBP of .376 and slugged .496 helped by 19 home runs
looks like Mike is pretty versatile in the field as last year he played 37 games at 1B, 18 at 2B, and 36 at 3B as well as 5 in OF. This year 1game at 2B and 3 at SS

So the way I understand it, a player's salary increases with each move up the ladder. And never decreases. So a move to the big show, even for a short time, can be great since even a demotion back to the minors does not penalize the player's salary

Players get paid monthly at all levels of baseball. This does not include any signing bonuses.
Only guarantee is players on a Major League contract which Ahmed is not on, and to get the MLB minimum, which this yr is 535K, a player must be on the big club for the entire season. This is why you see a lot of rookies who head north with the club out of spring training get sent down at some time during the season: to save $.
So if a player played one full month at AA, then got bumped to AAA for a month then demoted, he gets the minimum corresponding salary for his time at each level (pro-rated if less than a month at a level, it does not stay at higher level if a player moves up and is sent back down.
AA minimum is around 2K a month and AAA about 2.5K. These minimums go up a couple hundred per month for every year of service at a level, and players are paid only for the 6 months of the season at these levels.

Correct, but if he gets called up to the MLB, he is paid a prorated MLB min salary for his time in the Majors. For a lot of these guys, a Sept callup, or a callup sometime during the season makes their year. I believe MLB players are paid biweekly on an 8mos cycle, so a 2 week paycheck would be $30k+.

An update. After an 11 game stint with AAA Oklahoma City, Mike is back with AA Tulsa where he is hitting .323 with 3 HRs and 11 RBIs in 17 games. With his 6 walks, he has an OBP of .382. He has played every infield position.
Nick Lovullo is with the Salem Red Sox in the advanced Class A Carolina League after starting the year with the lower Class A Greenville Drive. He is hitting .270 overall (.255 at Salem) with a combined 1 HR and 14 RBIs in 31 games.
Despite being selected later in the draft, their major league connections (Mike's brother and Nick's dad with the Diamondbacks) along with their performance may give them a better shot at making The Show than other lower round picks.

Nick went 0-8 in his last three games and is now batting .232

Ahmed one the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (Twins) staff this season as Hitting & Development coach. I met Mike and fellow Crusader Alex Maldonado in September 2015 before a Midwest League playoff game between the Great Lakes Loons (a Dodgers affiliate and Mike’s team) and the Lansing Lugnuts (a Blue Jays affiliate and Alex’ team). Followed Mike’s career through the Dodgers system but had lost track of him in the last several years. I will be attending a Twins-Tigers exhibition game on 3/20/24 in Ft. Myers and will try to connect with Mike again and see how he’s doing. His brother Nick was the Diamondbacks starting shortstop for a number of years.
