It is time once again to embrace and elevate the great tradition of Holy Cross Crusader Football with the public voting component for the Ring of Honor!! Thanks to the members of the committee and Crusader alumni and fans everywhere who have made this such a great program. Special thanks once again to Ron Maheu '64 who had the wisdom and vision for this undertaking. I encourage fans of all ages to click on the links below and read about the exploits and accomplishments of these stellar Crusaders who distinguished themselves while wearing the Purple. Special thanks to AD Nate Pine and the Kingsley family who have taken the Ring of Honor to an incredible level with the displays of pride and tradition highlighting the Ring of Honor at Fitton Field.
In the fall of 2017, the College of the Holy Cross will honor the eighth class in the Crusader Football Legends Ring of Honor. Each of the inductees will be honored during a ceremony at Fitton Field with permanent recognition in the stadium. This year's Ring of Honor inductions will take place during the New Hampshire game on Sept. 16.
The players to be honored will be chosen by a special committee as well as fan voting. The committee includes representatives from the Holy Cross Athletic Department, the Friends of Crusader Football Executive Committee, the Holy Cross Varsity Club and the Holy Cross Development Office. Fan voting will account for a small percentage of the final tally.
From now until 4:00 p.m. on May 15, fans will be able to vote from among the semifinalists selected by the committee from the two different eras: 1896-1969 and 1970-present. Click on the link below to vote for the players from each era, or click on a player's name below to view biographical information on that individual.

So many good choices it's tough to vote for only one player in each era!

Grieco had a dominant junior year='66. I can remember him from his nose tackle getting to the QB's handoff before the RB He and Dick Giardi keyed the defense while Jack Lentz led the offense to a 6-3-1 record with wins breaking Dartmouth's longest win streak and of course, the huge upset at BC--32-26--Lentz to Kimener, about to be Purple Knights next month.

Sockalexis' bio has nothing of his football accomplishments Anyone have info ? Dr. Eddie deserving also. The modern era is even a tougher choice Had to go with Joe Segreti--a dominant RB on 3 great teams which had strong passing games also. See Ciaccio, Tom. both McGoverns also so deserving

Chet Millett. His resume speaks for itself. Not a glamor position guy but one of the toughest Crusaders ever.

I am astounded that Dr. Eddie Anderson is already in the National Hall of Fame, and not in the Holy Cross Ring of Honor! He deserves to be! Dr. Anderson is a football icon not only for the indelible impression he made on hundreds of young men who had played for him but also for his role as one of the last of an era of gentlemen coaches who had cut their teeth on football during the Rockne era. On the eve of his retirement from college football in 1964, Dr. Anderson was the game's elder statesman, revered by players, fellow coaches, fans and members of the press. His biography is very interesting! smile.amazon.com/Eddie-Anderson-College-Football-Coach/dp/0786430079/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1493747238&sr=1-1&keywords=Dr+Eddie+Anderson+Hall+of+Fame+Football+CoachAlso, there is a great article in Holy Cross Magazine, Spring 2007, Vol 41, Number 2. Vote Eddie Anderson!

My guess why Dr Anderson is not in the ring is that there were too many outstanding players ahead of him and a lot of people probably think about players before they think about coaches

I am going to vote for Dr. Anderson and Rob McGovern. The latter was a tough call for me because I always liked Peter Muldoon and Bill McGovern as really talented and hard working players while I was at the Cross but Rob McGovern was really quite good.

I voted exactly as Alum did. I think Dr. A should have been in there to begin with.
Actually I think they should have a special selection for coaches. Not one every year, but it seems unfair to be comparing coaching to playing.

Quite a factoid regarding Denis golden.. "After graduation he was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys but turned down a pro offer to enter the Marines." I remember him coming back and play against HC as a member of the Quantico Marines team..If my memory is correct, Tom Hennessey and Pat McCarthy were also on that marine team!!

I have a great memory of Dennis Golden from my freshman year, in the fall of 1965. He was the main speaker at a pep rally from the O'Kane porch, before the homecoming game against Dartmouth. He was one tough hombre, who looked the part and did a great job of rousing the crowd. We ended with a big bonfire on Freshman Field. Does that kind of stuff happen anymore?

The Homecoming Pep Rally was reinstated 5 years ago on Friday night on the Hoval at 9:00 PM. Food, Popcorn 🍿 and HC swag to participants. Unfortunately no Bonfire due to liability.

Someone has to vote for the great players before our times. I voted for Stan Kozlowski, fullback and punt returner. He was drafted in the 3rd round (24th pick) by the Redskins in 1946.
His career average yards rushing per game of 92.1 puts him in the #2 position behind only Gill Fenerty.
He had 23 career TDs (in 3 years).
He holds the record of returning 2 punts for TDs in one game (vs. Brown) and the 2nd most punts returned in a game with 12 (vs. Cornell). recording 427 punt return yards in one game against Dartmouth. For a career, he is #4 in punt return yardage averaging 39.5 yards per punt return.

Those teams from the glory years of Holy Cross football (1982 thru 1992) were just loaded with superior talent (and excellent Carter and Duffner head coaching). Just watching those games live, one could tell we frequently had the advantage in raw talent. I stumbled across the 1984 USFL Draft - we seem to have had far more selectees (Steve Raquet, Tim Galloway, Bruce Kozerski, and Rob Porter) than our regular season competition. Kozerski and Raquet were also drafted by the NFL that year. What folks like the hard hitting Tim Galloway on D and (future NFLer) Gill Finnerty on Offense did to our competition in the mid-80's was almost unfair (but I enjoyed every minute of it from the stands). My picks will be Coach Anderson and Peter Muldoon. And my hope is that we will return to the level we had back in the 1982-1992 time frame. Superior players and superior coaches.

Great to see the enthusiasm for this fabulous program. With a full ten days left for the public voting hopefully this excitement grows so that we receive a significant public vote. Without getting into any specifics of confidential committee meetings, I can share with you that each and every topic broached on the board has been addressed and discussed by the committee over the years. We are always trying to make this program the best it can possibly be. We certainly appreciate the efforts of AD Nate Pine, Joe Bertoletti, Heather Palmer et al to further enhance the special nature of the actual day and the program at large. The stadium and Fitton Field have a great look and feel with the displays connected to the Ring of Honor. Major thanks to the Kingsley family for their support.
The Ring of Honor was initiated in 2010. As I think anybody who has been to the morning reception and induction ceremony might attest, the emotions on display make it a very special day that leaves a long lasting positive impression for everybody involved. Not that every day is not a great day to be a Crusader but the Ring of Honor induction is simply one of the best.

One aspect not mentioned is the desire to induct players who are still alive, but in their later years. It would be ideal that they and their families could share this great honor.

Bump . . .
Voting ends on Monday the 15th. I am pleased to have received many personal messages from recent Crusader graduates who have studied the bios of these nominees and commented on their accomplishments, including this remark:
"I was torn between the two LBs on the list, McCabe and McGovern for the 1970-present list. McCabe ended up getting the vote though. What a stud, was 22 shy of a 200 tackle season in 1985. They played 11 games that season; he averaged over 16 tackles a game. Wow."
