Grieco had a dominant junior year='66. I can remember him from his nose tackle getting to the QB's handoff before the RB He and Dick Giardi keyed the defense while Jack Lentz led the offense to a 6-3-1 record with wins breaking Dartmouth's longest win streak and of course, the huge upset at BC--32-26--Lentz to Kimener, about to be Purple Knights next month. When we beat bc it's neverrrrr an upset.

I am not so sure that the '66 win over BC was a "huge" upset. Certainly not like the '42 game. However, it was probably one of the most exciting because of the back & forth leads and the last minute and long "bomb" thrown by Lentz which, as I recall, caught almost everyone by surprise, especially the BC defense. Sadly, probably the high point of HC football during my 4 years there . . . . and I was a freshman.

It was certainly a great game to see. After a big comeback by BC, including a BC lineman taking a handoff in the HC backfield and going for a TD, the pass was what made it a great game from an HC point of view.

My classmate Denny would have been a great first lay Prez of HC. Too late now that he is retired.

I exchanged some emails with Dr. Golden yesterday to extend my congratulations. His appreciation of the honor and graciousness exemplifies everything that is great about HC in general and HC Football specifically.

I remain the great beneficiary in being able to share the good news with those being inducted or close family members. I can tell you the emotions connected with this honor are incredibly deep. I will never forget the remarks made by Joe Wilson as he recounted his formative years growing up on a farm in North Carolina or Vince Promuto's taking us for a walk down memory lane in The Bronx prior to matriculating at this college on a hill where the Jesuits took him under their wing. I treasure a note that I will save forever from Bullet Bill Osmanski's wife Mary back in 2010 in which she wrote, "We are all so proud to know that Bill was selected to be in the inaugural Ring of Honor at Holy Cross. It would have meant so much to him. His success in life was all based on what he learned at Holy Cross and he believed that."
That concluding remark has been echoed one way or another by every individual who has been inducted into the Ring of Honor. Special place and special people this Holy Cross.
I hope many who frequent these parts will join us on campus for this year's RoH reception, tailgate, and induction ceremony on September 16th when the Crusaders take on UNH.
Let's Win!!
