I'm sorry but this is taking political correctness too far.
I am nauseated by this.
I have been on President's Council for over 20 years and if they change our mascot from the tradition of the Crusaders, as they would say on Shark Tank, "I'm out!"

You're nauseated by the fact that the college is opening up an opportunity for folks on both sides to have a rational, reasoned discussion on this topic? Ummm ok.

What is there to discuss?

The question on the online form that is posed is about the appropriateness of the nickname and symbol as a representative of our College. Clearly this has been bubbling for decades, so rather than have it continue to fester why not take it on and get all of the opinions and facts out on the table?

Unless the “Crusader” is judged, and he will be judged, to be evil incarnate, like Hitler for example, he should remain as the school mascot. Just because a couple hyper-sensitive faculty and students are upset by the mascot this should not bring its demise.

I can't imagine a better mascot for a group of men and women for others

Tom, might be a good idea to write all that in your survey response if you haven't already done so.
I do hope though that they don't emasculate the Crusader so it has no look or relationship to an actual Crusader. Yes, even with the sword. Hey, St. Peter wielded a sword! "Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant's name was Malchus.)" [John 18:10]

Why has this issue been trotted out again? It's already been discussed to death on at least one prior thread. All the possible arguments have been aired, and the overwhelming opinion on this board has been in favor of the Crusader mascot. My opinion is and was that HC should keep it, and that the faculty who oppose it are terminally infected with political correctness and probably don't know much about medieval history.

Because this has a poll. Btw 19-3 in favor of Holy Cross Crusaders.

If that what you think the goal of all this is, with all due respect, I think you are a bit naive. And if you think the goal of this is to get rid of the Crusader then you have been watching way too much Fox News.

Partly, I would imagine, in response to Fr. B's letter. Those interested in this, be sure to go to the HC website and enter your opinion regarding the Crusaders. All of these will go to the committee members (later to the trustees)

Political correctness run amuck! The name and mascot are not a problem for anyone except in the minds of a few ivory tower types looking for a cause celebre! The link below is where your opinion can be sent. www.holycross.edu/crusader-moniker-and-mascot

And, since they ask for your name, etc., it will be more difficult to stuff the ballot box!

There should be another choice. Something along the lines of:
Have a thorough discussion among the entire holy cross community, and then outline the process for making the decision. I will support whatever the decision is from the process like that.

My new avatar is a shirt I picked up in the HC bookstore - the last shirt of this type - at my 50th reunion. I like it and hope it will not soon become a collector's item (as has my "Redmen" glass from St John's University).
