If you believe what is posted on the recruiting page on Laxpower, Holy Cross coaches need not work too hard recruiting at any tournaments this summer. These are allegedly the commits for the next three classes. There are already 39 kids coming in with a typical roster of 43 kids total. There are four goalies among them.

what is the significance (if any) of the numbers in the left-hand column ?
2 goalies in next years class - hope one of them is good enough to step in. anyone on the present roster that can replace ortlieb ?

No significance. The first number is from the database and the "1" is because we are D1.

Yes, they can still be recruited. Teams will occasionally lose a player, but the great majority will stick. The bigger question for most teams is how well the players develop. Some of the current sophs will not be good enough to help a D1 team when they graduate.

Most D1 teams have virtually wrapped up their next couple of recruiting classes - which I think is bad for everyone. It's very tough to evaluate a player who has played one year of HS lacrosse and is nowhere close to his ultimate size or speed. Some commit before they ever step onto a HS field.

One example of of a player who was recruited away from his original commitment was Tucker Durkin. Originally committed to Bucknell but then was recruited away by Hopkins. Went on to be a 3-time All American. Since then has made 1st team All -MLL three times.

I could not believe the coverage of lax in the Philadelphia Inquirer! In the Keystone state, lax is the up and coming sport.

Watched some of the national semifinals this afternoon. In discussing the amazing talent of Brown face off guy, the announcer mentioned that HC actually conceded some faceoffs against Brown in order to avoid the fast break. I looked at the stats from that game. We lost 26 of 30.

Of course, if we had been able to keep Ben Williams.......

NC jumped out to a 9-1 lead against Loyola. Loyola got within about 4 goals at one point but could not get all the way back. Maryland and Brown was a great game. Brown had a big come back and forced OT but then left a guy open in front and lost.

I'm not sure where the discussion is now on a national level, but many of the national coaches groups (the IMLCA among them) have talked about trying to "slow down" recruiting by creating longer or more dead periods in the calendar, moving back the date of first allowable contact, etc. From what I remember it seems to have gained some support among a few coaches groups.
