They are compared to our opponents. That's all that counts.

Fast and quick are very different issues. Getting into defensive position "quickly" is not the same as being "slow." The hesitation some have shown with the defensive system is become less of a factor, but it is still there and that split second getting in place can be costly at the D1 level. Most of the frosh are "fast" but not yet as "quick" as they will eventually be.
As to this defensive system...it is easy to "learn" but harder to "execute" as some have said. In that regard it can be said to resemble golf or chess...easy to learn but it must be mastered with continual improvement that can last for years (hopefully fewer years for HC hoops).

There is one thing that holds true in every season for every sport on this board: no matter who is on our team, posters will say we are "slower" and "less athletic" than whatever team we are facing. I'll bet we can find posts where Kalif Raymond was called out for his lack of speed

We have some decent players on the team, we just have two empty classes(one from this coach and one from another) we have a coaching philosophy that doesn’t work for these guys. We have assistants who are either trumped every time they make suggestions or go along with the failed plan. We have had what 2 winning seasons in last 10?The last Three coaches can’t fix it. Administration needs to raise the bar, not just small talk, but real practice. Where do you want program to be in five years and provide all the support financially, academically and physically as you can. Can the school now officially say “we are in the entertainment business” Let’s stop being phonies! You will never have a top team who wins 20 games a year with the effort put forth by the administration. Don’t blame players. The blame starts with admin and coaches! This applies to all sports not just men’s BB

NAD, the Confucius that I know thinks it would make no real difference to this Holy Cross team. If it had a 45 second clock it would still dither around until there are 4-6 seconds left before making a move to the basket. So whether 35 or 30 seconds, it's just additional time that we pass around the arc. I know that sounds harsh and not in the Christmas spirit but for all this supposed P.O. and movement, as I pointed out to another poster during the game, watch how much standing around our guys do when they don't have the ball.

Confucius also say Princeton Offense likes 35 second shot clock much better than 30 second shot clock. For us, it’s really a 20 second clock by the time we get the ball over midcourt against token pressure.

Confucius also say Princeton Offense likes 35 second shot clock much better than 30 second shot clock. Here's an interview Joe Scott gave to WBUR in November 2015, in which he claimed that the 30-second clock was actually going to help Denver in the upcoming season. And, truth be told, Denver was a very efficient offensive team during the last five or so years of Scott's tenure, before and after the clock change. www.wbur.org/onlyagame/2015/11/21/shot-clock-princeton-offense-ncaa
