Keys for me will be how we play the second time around in the league this year, and how the 2019 recruiting class shapes up. Regardless, Carmody will almost certainly be back next year, when this team should be expected to be much more competitive. If the 2018-19 edition is sub-.500, he'll probably be gone.

Regular Reader, Rare Poster...
Lafayette is an awful team. Stick somebody 6-5 or over on Klinewski, guard the perimeter and ignore everything else. They have zero talent. If Carmody can't be above .500 against the bottom three teams this year, move him out. LC, Loyola and American. Lafayette struggled to beat some school called Susquehanna. Loyola is in freefall. American is just bad.

Now it’s becoming super clear why northwestern fans were screaming to fire this guy. In my opinion Carmody should be fired ASAP. Our best win was against Harvard where Benzan had his best game. Inexplicably he’s removed from the starting lineup and things worsened. Looks like he’s playing with the kid’s head rather than trying to get that same kind of production from PB each night. He and MZ play too tentatively while KC and CG are given so much slack. We are giving up so many wide open uncontested shots, especially when Benzan is on the bench. I could hear Benzan’s voice repeatedly over the telecast directing the defense. It’s silent when he’s off. Hoping we can get a coach willing to coach all the boys, not just the favored ones. Right now the favored players don’t play a lick of Defense or rebound and are just average at shooting. Carmody told Lutz he was going to continue playing the frosh! How about trying something different - start the 4 juniors and AB and play them the majority of the minutes.

1. He's not being fired now or in the immediate future. Not going to happen, nor should it. 2. We are not "average shooters." We are lousy shooters except for JF and his dunk shots and baby hook. 3. You are right about no rebounding. As for defense, we show periodic flashes of it. We did pretty well in the beginning of the game as we have in other games. The other teams adjust, we don't. 4. It was interesting that CWC did again have 4 frosh on the floor at one point. 5. Go back to #1. He's not going to be fired so put that dream to rest. NP fired TG this year mid-season. He's said that he is generally against doing that. He's not going to do that twice in one year.

One positive . . . Lafayette missed 33 shots and we rebounded 27 of them (82%) Too funny

Is “the last amateurs II” coming out this year? We may have as poor a ranking as when the first book came out!
I didn’t even remember HC played tonight. Have not watched a minute of last two games. Very non-entertaining form of basketball. The PL is so weak and we can’t beat them! Have not been a fan of the coaching philosophy from day one. Don’t see it getting better next year, stop the youth thing, a magical light is not going to switch on next year. Your weak jr class will be Sr’s, non existent soph class will be jrs, and the coaching weaknesses will be in year 4.

I know I've sunk to Last Amateurs level of disinterest in HC hoop. Had a game tonight but wouldn't have watched our game at Lafayette if we didn't.
I know we're young but it's also simply not worth the time to follow this program on a game to game basis these days.
This is seriously our "marquee sport?"

Hey, who coaches the Assumption basketball team? Nichols is probably the best team in central mass. They have a legit shooting guard from St. Mark’s

Seems pretty obvious to me that players are playing tentative. Not going to get anyone to step up and lead this team on the court when there is perpetual feel of getting benched. Not sure why we’re playing two point guards again and why PB is seeing reduces minutes after a pretty solid start to the year.
Unfortunately I’m not seeing anything salvageable or even remotely encouraging from any aspect of this program. I’m not sure I can stick around to watch the wheels fall off another HC sports program. Too many other things in life to attend to. The last HC fans standing should be given a lot of credit for their loyalty.

Carmody appears to have retired on the bench much as O'Hanlon has. The remarkable thing is last night's game might not have showcased the worst teams in the league. American and Loyola might be even worse. Perhaps HC should have covered the freshman some. Just a thought! He needs room to launch that shot.

Sadly HC87, we no longer have a marquee sport.

However, based on CWC's recent body language and comments, it would not shock me if he decided to step down at the conclusion of the season.

I was thinking the same thing. He doesn't need this aggravation at 65 and if he wants to remain active in the game, I'm sure he can find a scout/consultant gig. The really sad thing is the HC athletic program has become a career-killer for coaches in the "revenue sports." I wonder if the former Denver head coach, Scott I believe, would be the front runner.

I wonder if the former Denver head coach, Scott I believe, would be the front runner. Scott is a Carmody clone, and I don't think the case has been made, over the last 2 1/2 years, that his approach will work here.

(Big assumption, of course, that your theory is true). Now that would be something worth being pissed off at Nate Pine for. The hand-picked successor when a program hasn't been successful or is a few years past its prime. Have seen it at a number of places and it ends badly.

Scott may have been hired to provide continuity in the event Carmody chose, for whatever reason, to step down earlier than planned. We don't know (nor do we have the right to know) everything that's been going on.

Well, not that he's a candidate in any way, but I'd take the guy who's shown you can take Carril's offense at the college level and speed it up (Mitch Henderson) and not someone who seems committed to playing games in the 50s.
