Presumably we'll see a "Pumpsie Green Street" sign going up soon.

It was Jersey Street until I was 14. If it is renamed, I am not losing any sleep over it. Whether Tom Yawkey was a racist or not has been debated at some length. I suspect that he was less enlightened than many for a long time but came to a better place later in life. The Yawkey family did pursue some serious charitable works for which they get some make up credit. A better question to ask is why anybody wanted to name a street in the first place after a guy who owned a team for 44 years, employed the greatest hitter who ever lived, and could not win a damn championship.

Was he a contributor to the mayor who named it ?

Correction--Yawkey did not own the Red Sox when Babe Ruth was on the team

There was talk last summer about this happening and current owner is the one pushing it.
After Yawkey died, they only renamed half the street after him. It is still Jersey St once you cross Boylston St all the way to the Fens.
One thing that will help is that street numbers never changed. The current Jersey street address does not start at #1, but is a continuation of the numbers from Yawkey Way/Old Jersey
I don't care one way or another if they change it. If I owned a business on Yawkey Way, I would probably want the Red Sox to pick up the cost of changing my address (printed letterheads, forms with addresses, etc)

Let's not forget that Henry is a business owner, albeit a business that the city takes great pride in. He does not have the power to change the name of a street. He is asking that the city to do it. The city can say "no".
If it really upsets him that much, buy out "Who's On First" . Then he'll own every business from Brookline to Van Ness and he can petition the city to privatize the street. BU did it on a few streets. Once private he can call it anything he wants. What happens between Van Ness and Boylston is someone else's problem since his mailing address isn't Yawkey Way anymore. I haven't heard if he's upset about Washington St, but his business isn't located there
