Correct The issue is that these athletes still have to take a full load(12 + credits) during each semester

In general, I don't think anything on TBS does as well as good old fashioned major networks

They are allowed to take summer classes, but the players need to take a full load each semester they are playing, whatever a full load is for each school So how does this help? Do they take the more difficult classes in the summer, assuming one would be available? At Holy Cross, and many other schools, a student is considered "full-time" if he takes three or more courses in a semester. But three is not enough to graduate in four years, so a student may opt to take a course in summer school and then three courses during a given semester. Done at some schools by football players.

For the season Nova had a 1.28 adjusted PPP offensive rating, the second highest rating in the 17 years it has been charted. the highest was by 2015 runner up Wisconsin. They should be considered one of the best champions ever, behind only the undefeated teams, and both the Alcindor and the Walton UCLA squads.

Another example of Nova’s dominance Not sure if this has been done before

Correct The issue is that these athletes still have to take a full load(12 + credits) during each semester The Patriot League says simply that all athletes must be "full-time students", as defined by their school. And HC says that a student only needs to take three courses (9 credits) to be classified as a full-time student.

A report in Courier Journal says that Rick Pitino interviewed for the URI job and negotiations were under way for a contract in the $2MM range. URI president David Dooley killed the deal according to the article.

bison, as I understand, HC has mostly 4 credit courses - so most students take 16 credit hours per semester and others (including athletes) may take 12 if they take a course or two in the summer - in order to remain on track to graduate in 4 yrs.

I stand corrected on the credits. However the bigger point is that athletes (or anyone else) need only take three courses in a semester to be classified as "full-time" students and thus eligible to compete in a sport. That would explain why some would take summer school courses as you say.

Call me crazy but HC belongs in the Big East. Belonged in the 80s, belongs now.

I'll call you crazy - yes, belonged in the 80's but that decision is more than 3 decades old - sorry 'not' now I know 'first-hand' from Nova connections in the program the academic help that many bball players need - and I mean 'Help' - and they are the 2nd highest ranked academic school in the conference Don't think HC would go there, with the recruiting and academic support required.

You have a better chance of hitting the lottery & getting zapped by lightning on the same day than you do of seeing HC in the BE in 2018.

That would explain why some would take summer school courses as you say. The NCAA instituted the "full-time" rule years ago..Back in my college days, (early 70's), each school could decide what kept a student athlete eligible..some schools used "must be enrolled as a full time student" or "must be enrolled"..no minimums on credit/class load or GPA...Alabama football used the spring semester as their measure IF the students were enrolled that semester..i.e. incoming freshman were all eligible..Coach Bryant had his players enrolled in the summer and fall semesters, so everybody was eligible! Lots of games out there before the NCAA instituted some standards that made it a bit more difficult to avoid a GPA problem..However, somebody is always finding ways to circumnavigate the rules.

You know what I mean. The version of HC that we all want belongs in the BE, not the current version. Carry on.

Old Irish saying..."If wishes were horses we'd all ride like kings." ...and be in the Big East. Lacking such powerful wishes, it won't happen.

We had our chance to join the Big East way back when, and that train left the station years ago. The Big East doesn’t need any new members, and even if they did, HC would be far down the list. We can only dream !!

A report in Courier Journal says that Rick Pitino interviewed for the URI job and negotiations were under way for a contract in the $2MM range. URI president David Dooley killed the deal according to the article. The Courier Journal based this info on a report from GoLocalProv which URI had earlier issued a press release denying and requesting it be removed. GoLocalProv is an internet only site which has a poor reputation in RI. The site uses salacious rumors to drive up clicks for advertising purposes. The report in question cited no named sources and was not even authored by any named individual as it was attributed to the "Sports Team". There was no listing of specific named persons for this Sports Team anywhere on its site. It was poor journalism by the Courier Journal and other media such as the NY Post to further perpetuate unauthored false reports with no sources AFTER they had been denied.
