Maybe not. Comparing LACs with universities, and their substantially larger enrollment. Also BC doesn't publish a CDS, relying on its Factbook instead. Maybe yes. The stat is enrolled frosh top 10% percentage. (I'm too lazy to look up our fellow northeast Catholic schools this morning, but I gotta say Colgate [although its cross applicants are most likely Cornell, Dartmouth, and a bunch of NESCACS rather than HC] is impressive... 2007: 64% of enrolled frosh in their high school top 10% (Colgate) 65% of enrolled frosh in their high school top 10% (Holy Cross) 66% of enrolled frosh in their high school top 10% (Lafayette) 2018: 77% of enrolled frosh in their high school top 10% (Colgate) www.colgate.edu/docs/default-source/default-document-library/cds_2017-2018_v3.pdf?sfvrsn=0 59% of enrolled frosh in their high school top 10% (Holy Cross) www.holycross.edu/sites/default/files/files/planningandspecialproj/cds_2017-2018.pdf 58% of enrolled frosh in their high school top 10% (Lafayette) oir.lafayette.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/196/2017/11/CDS2017-2018.pdf Since HC does the 'test score optional routine' and GPAs are wildly inflated from school to school, top 10% is probably now the best stat to gauge comparative student academic quality - and change over time (notwithstanding the fact that many schools don't rank and therefore don't include a class rank - or in some cases even a decile- for their high school student).

High school Class Rank matriculants in top 10 percentColgate 77 percent 23 percent submitted rankDavidson 76 percent, 33 percent submitted HC 57.3 percent, 23 percent submitted HC says class rank is 'considered', same as standardized test score. Fairfield 40.5%, 16 percent submitted GPA of 3.75 or higherColgate 48 percent 100 percent submitted Davidson 82 percent, 98.5 percent submitted HC No data provided, although HC says GPA is very important. HC's explanation: Since schools often have different grading scales, the translation of GPA to a 4.0 scale is both impractical and unreliable.". Fairfield 32.4 percent, 98 percent submitted A quick explanation, please--using Colgate as an example "Colgate 77 percent 23 percent submitted rank"---Does this mean that 23 percent of Colgate matriculants told the college what their high school class rank was, and of those 23 "reporters" 77 percent were in the top 10 percent of their high school class??? If that is the case, I'll suggest that these percentages tell us very little---the 77% who did not submit could all have been #1 in their classes or at the bottom of their classes ---Does this mean that 23 percent of Colgate matriculants told the college what their high school class rank was, and of those 23 [percent] "reporters" 77 percent were in the top 10 percent of their high school class??? Yes. But as HC is SAT optional and won't report GPA, that means HC competitiveness is measured by the 23 percent of matriculants who submitted a ranking. That is the solitary objective data point.

I agree PP. It is a useful number and HC provides very few of those. I also note that a very similar number (23%) of students at both schools (HC and Colgate)had a ranking in their application packets. I'd also note that school rankings and school GPA's are provided by the high schools. (In my high school's case, students do not have an option of masking the GPA and decile rank that appears on their transcript.) Any chance HC will go 'class rank optional'? "GPA optional"?

Any chance HC will go 'class rank optional'? "GPA optional"? Why not? Complete subjectivity rules. HC admits that religious preference / commitment is a factor in deciding whether to admit. If you're Catholic you're in. (I looked at Georgetown, Fordham, and Fairfield and these institutions state that religious preference / commitment is not considered.) That may be a questionable criterion in this day and age, given that HC receives Federal funds as does Harvard and Harvard is being zinged by the Justice Department for allegedly discriminating against Asian applicants.

"allegedly discriminating against Asian applicants"?? We can confidently drop the "allegedly" from any discussions about this subject. Harvard absolutely discriminates against Asians.

September 5 and still no update on the HC website with class of 2022 admissions stats. Meanwhile, other schools have already released (some months ago) 2022 class profile booklets in both PDF and html. Why is HC so excruciatingly slow in updating the school website? Until very recently, the "HC in the news" section of the site still had content front and center from May.
