For those who did not get to see Tom Ciaccio play -- here's some video highlights from his first start in 1989. Thanks, breezy! Brings back fond memories.

Gotta agree, and that does not bode well for his pro prospects . (Plus the common sense fact that a Patriot League QB would need to be far and away the best QB in the very weak PL to have a shot...although a good PL QB, Pete was not that) John Skelton was not far-and-away the best PL QB, but he lasted a couple of years in the NFL, even getting a couple of starts for a very banged up Cardinals team. IIRC, he shared 2nd-team All-PL honors with Lafayette's Rob Curley. Of course our very own Dominic Randolph was a shoe-in for 1st Team. Pujals 100% healthy and able/allowed to run was the best QB in the PL. Pulling for him on Day 2 of the draft.

Measureables - I understand where people would gravitate toward PP. Immeasureables - I would take Ciaccio every day of the week and twice on Sunday - not necessarily in comparison to anyone, but in general. I saw this guy for two years. Just wouldn't allow the team to lose. He was unreal. Ciaccio, Randolph, Wiley, Muldoon, Pujals - pretty good crop over the past 30 years.

Wiley also had the same fierce determination to win. As did Jack Lentz in the mid 60s

There certainly are exceptions to my statement (made relative to Dominic Randolph v Peter Pujols, this year's very weak PL, and the NFL). Skelton ( 8 or 9 years ago - not this year's very weak PL BTW) was the top passer in all of FCS as I recall and was drafted and played in the NFL. Maybe that gives us a hint as to what it takes to make the NFL (besides luck). Ciaccio, Randolph, Wiley, and Muldoon were outstanding HC QB's. Didn't play in the NFL. Pujals is an outstanding HC QB. IMHO his talent puts him within that group. I'll leave it at that but hope for the best for PP.

I hope Coach Chesney watches the film of this game to get some good offensive play ideas. From the short clip, the receivers must have run good routes as they were wide open and there was good QB protection! Go Cross!

Thanks, breezy! Brings back fond memories. I hope Coach Chesney watches the film of this game to get some good offensive play ideas. From the short clip, the receivers must have run good routes as they were wide open and there was good QB protection! Go Cross! We were pretty good back then. Then, after the 1991 season, our last class of scholarship players graduated and Duffner and staff left. Bad combo that has led to 26 tough seasons with the exception of the one league championship and a couple of second place finishes during the Dom years. Hoping with Chesney, scholarships and the Luth, we will get back to being an FCS powerhouse soon.

(NB that is 17 of 17 possibly drafted QB's as per the site's prediction) RANK 17 Peter Pujals - Round 7-PFA School: Holy Cross | Year: Senior (RS) Small-school wild card whose accuracy (completed 55.3 percent of his passes as a senior in 2017) is a concern. "Really smart. You know the guy's tough, competitive, he's got some fire to him. I just don't know that he's good enough," an NFC personnel director said. "He was at the NFLPA game and he had a rough week."

From Pro Football Weekly on day 2/3 prospects:
Quarterback: Peter Pujals
Team: Baltimore Ravens
Offensive Scheme; Hybrid West Coast
Peter Pujals might not be a household name, but the quarterback from Holy Cross is an extremely experienced passer that flashed some tools that could be enticing to a team like the Baltimore Ravens. Pujals was a five-year starter at quarterback for the Crusaders (you read that right, more on that in a second) and the first four-year captain in school history. Early in his senior season he suffered a broken leg, which ended his season, but he was able to return for one more collegiate campaign. He earned a berth to the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, where he played alongside some other draft quarterbacks such as Austin Allen, Kenny Hill and the previously-mentioned Woodside.
One thing that stands out watching Pujals is his processing speed, which you can see on this go/flat concept:
Here, Pujals is reading the concept to the left side of the formation, and he has to decide in an instant where to throw — either the go route or the flat route. The cornerback to that side initially drops but then breaks on that flat route, perhaps as part of a Cover 2 trap coverage. Without missing a beat, Pujals throws the vertical route with precision placement.
Here's Joe Flacco running a similar concept in London against Jacksonville:
Flacco actually places this pass pretty well, but Jeremy Maclin cannot complete the catch and the tipped pass is intercepted.
For an offense like Baltimore's, which is rooted in West Coast concepts requiring quick decisions but also vertical shots at times, Pujals is a nice fit. With Flacco, Josh Woodrum and the newly-acquired Robert Griffin III on the roster, the Ravens might not use draft capital on a quarterback, but if they want to add a player as an UDFA, Pujals is the ideal candidate.

Ravens drafted the Louisville QB last night @32 who was thought to be a Patriots target (Pats passed on him at 31). The Pats have scouted Peter and I wouldn’t be surprised if they sign him as a free agent after the draft.

Lauletta picked in the 4th by the Giants. Love the pick. Great situation for him and the G-Men. Anyone who suggested he might not get drafted wasn’t paying a lot of attention. He was pretty clearly going to go somewhere between the third and fifth round.
