With apologies to the navy, all today needed to cap this off was for someone to break a bottle over the corner of the building and to say "May God Bless this building and all who play/practice in her."

OK, pictures are better than words, so here are some from today and, yes, the weather was gorgeous. Front of Hart/Luth (if the name above the door was there before, I never noticed): Click to enlarge

Lots of former football and basketball players in attendance including, as you've already seen in prior posts, Cooz and Togo. Stan Grayson and many others there. Pictures of pre-ceremony "light lunch" (the heaviest light lunch that I've ever seen) crowd:

It appeared that every varsity team was there wearing their "colors." Too bad we couldn't get this kind of student turnout for basketball games!:

Lest we forget, this is still the Hart Center, named after Francis J. Hart, S.J.!:

It is a shame they were never able to recover the leather jacket of Father Hart's that was stolen from the display case. He wore that thing every day for intramurals at Freshman Field. I am glad that his name and memory will be preserved at the Hart.

Fr. Hart plaques and memorabilia on display: not sure this is a permanent display as it in an area immediately adjacent to the new ticket office & windows in the atrium

First, let me echo the sentiments of all that yesterday was well done.
Following the main dedication ceremony in the gym, there were several very nice moments at the individual dedications that followed. I made it to the dedication of the football offices where William P Maloney, ‘59 (for whom the offices are named) talked about his experience mentoring players and encouraged current players to pay that forward.
Fr Earl Markey blessed the AD’s offices dedicated to Ron Perry - lots of humor in both the blessing and stories told.
And finally, the dedication of Blaney Court. Coach Blaney, surrounded by many of his players choked up several times during his remarks and barely got out the words “this is for Maryellen.” The players moved in closer and patted him on the shoulder and rubbed his back. He finished his remarks and then many of the players stepped up to share brief vignettes - both funny & touching - about their coach & friend.
It was a great day for Holy Cross and a great day to be a Crusader.

I suspect (& hope) that hanging the plaques is one of punchlist items ADNP referenced in the Jen Toland article in today’s Telegram.

No question this was a temporary display as these had been on the walls previously and no doubt will be again.

I just hope John Luth did not have a sit-down with ADNP to ask about this ROI for the complex. This past weekend was not pretty. Baseball lost 3 of 4, softball lost all three games vs. Colgate at home ('gate had won 3 league games prior to the weekend), women's lax did not belong on the same field as Loyola, losing 23-3, men's golf finished a distant last in the league championships (after the women's team had the same distinction the previous weekend). Ourselves and Lafayette are the clear laughing stocks of this league.
I hope Mr. Luth (who built his career on results) will ask the same of our school.

Remember student athlete citizenship is next to Godliness and much higher than W/L.

They also trail "laughing stock" Holy Cross in the PL standings, don't they?

rgs, you say some of the silliest things - I'm talking about overall performance in the league, not just baseball. If you have the time, please look at Lehigh's results in the league across the board, over the last few years. You can start with football and go from there. Then get back to us here

I have seen the overall performance of each PL team. Lehigh has done very well overall and HC has had what could be "charitably" called a poor year. However, Lehigh does trail HC in baseball and when is it good to trail a team that you say is considered a "laughing stock?" I believe that in trying to make your case you made an unfortunate choice of that term. PS: I do, indeed, say some pretty silly things from time to time. I would never deny that.

Far be it for me to defend Holy Cross right now but as far as the LAC is concerned, it has been open for business just this academic year. Did anyone really expect instantaneous results? Let's not equate this to some CEO who cares only about the profitability of the next 2-3 quarters because of his stock options. The LAC is a capital expense. We gotta be thinking longer term.
If we are still getting these same results 3-4 years from now, Luth and wife should ask for their money back.

All of our coaches have been visiting recruits with a neat LAC brochure for the last two years, to show what's comng We all know a lot about football, hockey and m&w basketball recruits, and the jury is out if these classes are better than in the past. I wonder if there have been any success stories with our coaches from the other 22 (?) olympic sports that are bringing in this year's frosh class. Can we all agree there should be some performance improvement starting in the 2018-19 season ?

Not in the habit of quoting myself, but again, here's the objective data on our performance within the PL through the winter sports over the past 4 years that I posted when it was suggested that HC athletics was at a nadir.
In terms of overall results, a slight improvement so far this year and we'll see where we are in a couple of weeks with respect to the full year results when the spring sport competition concludes.
Also wrt to the Luth and recruiting - if we've been using a glossy brochure in recruiting for 2 years, that means anyone recruited with the brochure is at best sophomores this year.
Since the topic is HC athletics, not the 3 sports one poster cares about ...
Standings in the President's Cup thru the end of the winter sports would say flat perhaps slightly improved but hardly a nadir.
