I would be there but alas, I have a wedding in D.C. I do think that Luth will aid in recruiting and we will begin to see its benefits soon.

Try not to make assumptions. What faith will the people/person be who give(s) the blessing?

I believe Prof. Benny Liew is Presbyterian and perhaps within the ecumenical spirit of the College, he will be asked to give the blessing rather than Fr. Boroughs. I'm a 50%-50% shot of attending due to my mixed feelings. Let's see if the spirit moves me. If I go, I will post a report since it seems most are not planning to attend and I did attend the beam signing ceremony but those were simpler times.

The College is supposed to be Catholic, act like it.

To have someone other than a Catholic make the blessing would be ludicrous and inappropriate

To have someone other than a Catholic make the blessing would be ludicrous and inappropriate This would be another firestorm; HC essentially denying its Catholic roots. What a joke if this happens!

There is a dedication for a room named after Coach Duffner (who will be in attendance I believe) on Friday afternoon....sorry, I don't have the details in front of me at the moment.

This is a good thing. I met Coach Duffner when he and the rest of the extraordinary Rick Carter team arrived on campus in the Spring of 1981. The assistant football coaches had lockers in the track team locker room. He was good natured and interested in everyone. Good for those who chose to honor him and good for him for making himself available to allow the College to raise money.

Apparently, one must put a " " or " " or " " to know a post is not serious but rather facetious or, on occasion, sarcastic. Tom has the advantage, as do many other posters, of knowing me and when I am serious and when I am not. My pal, RGS, lofted me a gopher pitch that I had to swing at. I was somewhere between facetious and sarcastic as I am not happy with the way the College (mis)handled the Prof. Liew situation but my bitterness is mostly gone (much less upset with him than the Administration). I am still very unhappy about the abandonment of the Crusader. And, thus, despite my donations to the College that helped build the Luth, I really am unsure whether I can bring myself to go for the ceremony - blessing or no blessing. Admittedly, this will be a decision not made by my cerebral cortex but a very visceral one . . . . and the weather . If I find out that they will pass around a collection basket after the blessing, I'm definitely not going.

A great ceremony to dedicate and bless the Luth Athletic Complex! As guest speaker Dr. George Paletta noted in his speech, it’s a great day to be a Crusader!
