I hope that we do not schedule Merrimack, we need to upgrade our schedule.

Bergen Catholic HS just won their state sectional title in NJ. They beat Gil StBernard by 1 point (49-48) on a neutral court early in the season. GSB is a strong team! We need to be more active with Bergen Catholic. The Bergen-HC connection is northern NJ is deep and strong but has been largely "unmined" in the last 25 years.

It appears that is changing and I hope we see more "double Crusaders" in the coming years.

I hope that we do not schedule Merrimack, we need to upgrade our schedule. We've not seen even-closer Bryant (maybe once?) or UML; would anything make Merrimack different from those two?

Welcome aboard Merrimack. An easy bus trip on the nights we're not playing St. John's, Georgetown and Villanova during the OOC schedule.

Merrimack will want to play us in BB, we'll want to play them in Hockey. Perhaps a home and away in both sports with a softball game to be named later? I went to the Merrimack Athletic site and was surprised to see that a college with Hall of Famer Yaz as a graduate (He played baseball at Notre Dame but finished up his degree at Merrimack, as I recall, because he promised his parents he would finish his college education when he signed with the Red Sox) is a vagabond when it comes to baseball playing facilities. This season they played their home games at fields in Lowell, Haverhill, Danvers, Brighton and Northborough. Why can't Hillshire Farms sponsor a home field for Merrimack in honor of their longtime pitchman Carl Yastrzemski?

HC has played Merrimack in hockey in the past few years, a home and home...Merrimack has made tremendous strides in their athletic facilities and in the past 15 years..They now have have D-1 type facilities in most sports. Their Ice hockey facility has 2 rinks, weight rooms and their "locker room" is among the best in the country..Their weight room was designed and installed by the same company that did the new HC weight room...(When the HC room was installed, the company's truck was covered with graphics of the Merrimack room!) My son played soccer at Merrimack we have seen all the upgrades to the athletics facility progress (My wife is also an alum..) Baseball is still looking into where their new field will be...The proposed area on campus was nixed after a study proved to show it was not a feasible area..The new football stadium was built where the baseball field was..

I noted how nice the facilities are on the website. The new football stadium is beautiful, but only seats 3500 iirc. I suppose that is realistic for today in low FCS, sadly. Many of Assumption's traditional rivals will still come to Worcester in future years but they won't have to fight the traffic on Salisbury Street, the bus can get right off Rte. 290 and go up the hill. Assumption has voted to change from a college to a University. I wonder if they will ever move to D-1?

Interesting question. It could create a real rivalry for HC down the road if they do.

Only division move AC would ever make is down to D3.

Assumption probably had D1 yearnings at some point in time, given the strength of their basketball program in Division 2; but the finances of the place were never very solid.
I would think a better bet to try at some point is Bentley.

Here in The Ville, Bellarmine University (NCAA D-2 basketball national champs a few years ago) is rumored to be contemplating a move to D-1.

I would think a better bet to try at some point is Bentley. The problem for Division 2 is that it is relatively expensive with none of the upside in terms of publicity and potential Revenue of Division 1. I would think Assumption is clearly contemplating a move up because at the end of the day Athletics is an enrollment tool for that school and the potential visibility that division one would give them would help in that regard. Division 3 would make no sense for them

Also never contemplated the move down, especially since the trend now-a-days is to move up. At least that's what former NE-10 rivals Lowell and Merrimack thought. If Assumption moved down, they better hope the NEWMAC (WPI, Clark) takes them. The MASCAC is all state schools. In spite of Becker's recent success the CCC is pretty low D-III. Same can be said about GNAC (Anna Maria) and NECC (Becker)

If memory serves me, Bryant, Sacred Heart, CCSU and Quinnipiac were all New England D-2 schools, too at one point. I'd settle for remembering 3 of 4 correctly. I won't say any have conquered the world in D-1, except perhaps Quinnipiac in hockey, but you never hear of any contemplating going back down.

D2 in New England has gotten pretty small, (and because of that the NE 10 has expanded to NY State, which of course increases expenses a bit); at some point there could be a choice to make, up a level or down a level.
Plus, football in that league is pretty much D2 in name only; it's really lower level than that. Assumption's success was more of an outlier than something long-lasting.
