Working on a Saturday.
I now expect the contractor to deliver the building to HC in a month or so, probably on or near the original date.
When HC said the students might not get to use it until November, perhaps that may have reflected an anticipated timeframe for when the state might re-open such facilities under its COVID guidelines.
I also think the contractor may want to move The Jo crew over to the PPAC, as steel erection for the PPAC seems to be nearing the end.

It appears as if the flooring for the hoops courts is being unloaded this morning. This should be just about the last set of materials to be installed.
Also as CHC8485 suggested some days ago, they may indeed be constructing stairs from Wheeler up to The Jo.

looks like the new walkway from the Hogan Courtyard to the Jo is taking shape with granite curbing.
maybe connecting with the replacement stairway coming up from Wheeler

I see now that the new stairway from Wheeler is being built in a new place--closer to Hogan

Not sure it's that much closer to Hogan. Remember that the Jo does not extend as close to Hogan as the Fieldhouse did.
Based on old photos, the old staircase was roughly opposite the west wing of Wheeler. If I had to guess, this stairway may be in the center of Wheeler Beach, opposite the the center door to Wheeler.

I roomed in Wheeler 315... in the center of the corridor... my recollection is the stairway to the Fieldhouse was in line, slightly off to the right from my window. Does any one recall Fr B saying that 400 trees would be planted in conjunction with construction on the upper campus? Trees were planted in the new parking area in front to Luth but not nearly 400.

I do not specifically recall such a figure but its possible. From today's webcam, they are planting 12-15 trees flanking the south side of the Upper Campus Road next to The Jo. The land around the PPAC, particularly on the south and east sides, will have a lot of trees. The reconfigured parking lots north of the Hart rink will probably have trees. Transform Wheeler Beach into an arboreal forest!! So maybe that gets to 200. Medthinks 200 above that could be had by planting trees on the east side of playing fields at the top of the hill; provided said trees cast no shadow on the fields themselves.

Closed the access point for the contractor to bring materials into The Jo today, and installed the large window that goes in that opening. The screen for the mechanical equipment on the roof is now installed and the roof looks to be nearly done. >Not sure about a cornice that needs to be installed or uncovered.
Based on this, I believe The Jo will be delivered to the college by the end of August, and no later than the Friday before Labor day weekend.
I think that either the last weekend in August or Labor Day weekend will feature ceremonial ribbon-cutting of The Jo, and the steelworkers hoisting the ceremonial last beam for the PPAC, with the major donors, members of the TPTB and BoT, and limited number of students and faculty in attendance.

Ditto kudos for all the updates. The ceremonial ribbon cutting may be followed by the ceremonial glueing the ribbon together again and closing the facility off until there is a vaccine. Can they get any recreational use of the building for the students who are on campus with approved exceptions?

I believe The Jo can open, with restrictions. www.wbur.org/bostonomix/2020/07/06/gyms-reopen-phase-three-massachusettsHowever, I don't think the courts would be open for basketball 'games'. I believe that happens under step 2 of Phase 3, which was postponed. And the college first needs to set protocols for use of equipment, rooms, etc., which is probably fairly low in the pecking order at the moment. ______________________ Heavy thunderstorms last night appear to have washed away some of the landscaping dirt, and it appears several drains were clogged. No biggie, unless the drains are undersized. ______________________________________ The good news is that the positive percentage, statewide, of the running three day molecular test average was 1.1 percent on August 21, 22, and 23. The lowest it has been since testing began. Public health date on cases and positive test rates for Worcester will be released on Wednesday. On Sunday, the three Worcester hospitals that treat COVID cases on an inpatient basis had a total of 16 patients, eight were in the ICU.

Has anyone taken photos of either the south or west sides of the Jo recently? If so, can you post so we can see the current state.
I have been following construction via the web cam, however, only the east and north sides are visible. Also, has anyone seen any interior pictures, and the floor plan?

I have been following construction via the web cam, however, only the east and north sides are visible. Also, has anyone seen any interior pictures, and the floor plan? The two courts and indoor track (elevated) are the rectangle looking at the building from Hogan. Of the three large windows on the east side, the middle one appears to be an overhead door, that can be rolled up to provide a loading space for oversize items. (In today's webcam, this window is white.) To the right of the rectangle is a polygon. The roof has mechanical equipment which is surrounded by a gray-colored screen.. Under the mechanical area on the roof are vertical chases for utilities, an elevator, stairs. There are two floors under the roof; the top floor is for exercise equipment. The floor below is probably rooms for exercise classes, and specialized exercise equipment. Half-sized floor below that is probably locker rooms, and rooms for club sports. There is another smaller floor mostly at the NW corner. This may be utilities and equipment storage rooms for club sports/intramurals. I do not know where the golf simulator is. I do not know if there is a cafe, or food and beverage vending area. New offices for public safety are at the NW corner, on the level of the Upper Campus Road. ^^^ I have not seen floor plans.

Thanks PP.
I keep looking for in progress photos, so far no luck.
According to the website the vending machines will have healthy snacks. Not sure the definition is of healthy. Too bad we can’t ask Euell Gibbons for advice. 😊

There are renderings of the west facade, and the NW corner. Where will staff park? Where do you think the campus security cruisers will be parked? They now park on upper Linden at the foot of the library steps.

Their "cruisers"...a fleet of Smart cars, are usually parked by the top of the parking garage area, at least on football game days when I have been there

They actually moved public safety to City View Street - the first house on the left as you come onto City View from College Street - a couple of years ago. Cruisers have been parking there when not in use. As to the new digs, you can also see a small driveway and parking lot in that last picture of the renderings between the building and College Street. Suspect that's where cruisers will be parked. The Prior Center for Arts & Creativity has taken far more parking than the new rec center. Parking was added in front of the Luth just before construction on the PCAC started, which makes up for many (though not all) of the lost spaces. Parking will be no more of an issue than it's been in recent years. [EDIT] Lou - Smart Cars are used by the Physical Plant Staff to get from place to place on campus when all they need to carry is a tool box. Public safety has several Ford SUVs as cruisers. Here's 2 of them.

As for other parking, I think there will be spaces on the east side. The rendering doesn't depict such, but if the overhead door masquerading as a window is a loading point for oversized deliveries, then there will be truck access on the east side. The rendering shows brick-faced raised beds with benches, decorative features with little value.

The school has about 20 Smart Cars?... are they hybrid smart?... unlike golf carts they have license plates.
the use of the many self propelled lift booms must increase individual worker productivity a lot
btw 'cruiser' was a maritime term until I came to MA

The majority of cruisers in MA were Crown Vic's until Ford stopped making them. SUV's are more versatile but I talked to an older cop who said nothing was more comfortable to sit in all day than the Crown Victoria.
