Today, the contractor is apparently going to be paving the parking area for public safety on the west side of the Jo, and the 'plaza' area on the east side of the Jo.
The contractor has unloaded two good-sized rollers, of a size typically used when paving streets and roads, or large parking lots. One roller too many and too big for these small areas by The Jo. Therefore, I predict that the parking lots between Hogan and the Hart rink will be re-paved this week.

PP, have you been able to determine the material surfaces that will be used for the pathway between Hogan and the Jo? Will it be Asphalt, Brick, etc?
Just took a look at the webcam, the stairs still must also be completed.

Just took a look at the webcam, the stairs still must also be completed. i believe it will be asphalt edged with a concrete shoulder, same as the path by the Hoval. Vehicles can access the path by an at-grade connection between the path and the bottom of the ramp area leading to the loading docks at Hogan. This facilitates fire department access to the rear of buildings along Easy St., Dinand, and which is why I have suspected that the 'plaza' area at the east side of The Jo will be paved.

Thanks for the update.
The best time to peek into the building from the webcam regarding progress currently is approx 6:15 AM. The web camera has switched from B/W to color, and the interior is illuminated so that you can see the suspended track.
Still hoping that HCFC45, in his journeys has taken pictures of the south and west sides of the Jo and can post.

That walkway and the plaza area would look really good in brick or stone

^^^Yes, they would, but installation cost would be high, and long-term maintenance costs higher still. Worcester winters, frost heaves, and snowplow blades = constant repair, particularly of a surface that must stand up to the weight of trucks.

Actually, I was in Worcester this morning and went up there with the intention of taking a few shots of the area you reference. I waited for almost 30 minutes across the street for an opportunity to drive in and get a few pics but the traffic in and out was constant and there was a substantial number of workers measuring for paving and doing other things. I will make another attempt later this week....

Thanks 45. If you are in the area, a picture from College Street will provide an answer to our inquiring minds. π

I took crucis' counsel, and looked at 6:15 AM, and was a bit surprised at what I spied. The elevated track still loops around the courts but also appears to extend into the space on the north side where the exercise equipment will be. And the track appears to widen there as if the architect and the college are creating a space for running sprints, perhaps enough length for a 40 yard dash.

I was at the top of Boyden facing College street and you can't see much from there. You really have to enter the gate to get a good view. A few weeks ago when we drove through you could see the basketball scoreboard above the court.

It appears that they have unloaded stone pavers (probably colored concrete) for the plaza area. Contrary to Phreek's surmising.

Phreek, based on your view this morning of the inside, as well as the work to be completed on the outside, what is your current estimate for turnover to HC?
I have looked for a published project plan, but so far I have not been successful.

Phreek, based on your view this morning of the inside, as well as the work to be completed on the outside, what is your current estimate for turnover to HC? I have looked for a published project plan, but so far I have not been successful. They are lagging on the hoops court and the flooring on the upper level. They have not installed the 'front' entry door. (east side). They appear to be further along with the landscaping than I expected, and not so far along with the interior. And no particular sense of urgency. Some months ago, during the lockdown, the provost said 'November 1'. I thought she was unduly pessimistic. Like Fauci, I am always cautiously optimistic, but I also don't even have the floorplans. As best as I can tell, most of the trades are like Elvis and have left the building.

Based on work still to be completed, the November date seems accurate at this point.
Without students on campus, the urgency to have βThe Joβ completed in September has been resolved.

does anyone want to take a stab when/how the Jo will be staffed?
The Office of Campus Recreation [intramurals, 23 club sports] has a named director [address 'Fieldhouse']... under the AD?
There maybe an office of student health & wellness education associated with the Counseling Center... under VP for Student Affairs?

It is 7:45am on Friday (9/11) and the webcam shows a crane in the upper middle with an American flag attached in blowing straight out in the wind! Last beam topping off today or remembering 9/11?

I'm certain it's commemorating 9/11, and the ironworkers on-site affixed it. Too big for the topping off beam. ___________________ Installing the front door (east entrance) at The Jo today.

Good Afternoon Phreek:
Since you are the source of a ton of information, it has been almost a month since the last post regarding the βJoβ.
The railings on the roof were removed yesterday. Work is continuing on the east side of the building regarding the entrance as well as landscaping.
Any updates regarding current construction and landscaping occurring this week? The plaza on the east side is being prepared for a permanent surface. Have you been able to ascertain the type of surface for the path and the plaza?
I was not able to find a project plan to determine the current EOP for the building to be completed and turned over to HC.

crucis, the plaza on the east side appears to be cast stone blocks in different sizes and colors that will form a striped geometric pattern. These are being laid on a concrete base, with sand/gravel being used to level. This is taking forever.
I do not know what the top finish will be for the path between Hogan and the Jo. It seems that this path is not finished.
Based on reading a description on the architect's site, the hoop courts can be used for other sports, e.g., tennis? volleyball? To me, this suggests the courts will not be hardwood.
