To say this looks like a rebuilding year would seem to be a huge understatement. Played better in losing to Northeastern Friday night 2-1 but today’s result vs. Harvard is tough to comprehend. A 4-0 loss without a single shot by HC. Harvard had 44 shots and LaPlante had a staggering 29 saves. (She leads the country in saves per game- not something you want to be no.1 at) Really shouldn’t happen to a D.1 team that has recruited athletes.

I’m sure you realize that Harvard is nationally ranked. I hope players never read this board as the expectations of some folks is questionable. I understand the folks on here to want the Cross to win in everything and get back to the once proud days of yesteryear but it’s not happening. Cheer and love the quality students athletes you have. Your student athletes like mine at UNH are a great example of the commercial run during the NCAAs about them going pro in something besides sports!

Unh fan, I did realize Harvard is ranked 15th and my expectations are realistic. Wouldn’t you think Harvard played backups in the 2nd half of this game ? Also, I am sure their coach did not want to embarrass HC. The shot differential was striking, you have to agree
I hope the team turns it around vs. the more PL-like opponents coming up

Anyways, Holy Cross lost 1-0 today to Columbia who had the largest goalie I have ever seen checking in at 6'1 who played very well today. Some pictures from the game are available by clicking on the link below. www.foley-photography.com/Field-Hockey/2018-Season/Columbia-at-Holy-Cross

Harvard's coach is from Holland, but he apparently hasn't recruited much there. Last year's Harvard roster had two Dutch players on it, and this year's team also has two.

One of our better fall olympic sports is really taking it on the chin so far. Lost to a previously winless LIU team last night 2-1. We're 0-6 and have very tough game at Dartmouth Sunday.
If it is possible, our fall teams are looking worse than last year

While I would like to see all Holy Cross teams have athletic as well as academic success, the only ones that I would sleep over (that might be a slight exaggeration) is football and men's basketball. But . . . . that's just me.

Well, I agree that yday's win at Fitton is more important than any minor sports result (or season for that matter), but it is a concern when we don't belong on the same field as our opponents. 5-2 loss today at Dartmouth and we drop to 0-7 From the account of the game: Dartmouth managed an astounding 45 shots (45-19) in the game with 28 reaching the net. LaPlante's 22 saves were the second-most by any Division I goalkeeper in a game this year, trailing only the 28 stopped by Laplante at Harvard on Sept. 2. By the way volleyball ended their ooc schedule at 1-12 (we're in year 4 of that coach's rebuilding efforts)

Field hockey plans (hopes?) to recruit internationally this year.

It would appear that broadening the recruiting base will be essential. After today's 7-1 loss to (ranked) Albany, we're 0-9 and have been outscored on the season 40-8. Did not see this coming from a team that had some pretty respectable seasons recently.

Nice job by the FH women. Along with soccer, the ladies picked up two wins today.

Hmmm. I'll swap you your two ladies wins for a football win over UNH . . . . . or anyone, at this point.

Solid work by Marcia LaPlante in the nets today, making 10 saves. She leads the Patriot League in save percentage (77.5%, good for 11th nationally), and should be getting hazard duty pay - 141 saves on the season, by far the most in the country, and more than double the number of any other PL goalkeeper.

This loss was especially tough - leading 3-2 in the last minute of regulation, Quinnipiac scored with 33 seconds left to tie it up and then won it 2 minutes into OT. final record was 3-14 (winless at home) and the top two scorers, LoPrete and Noone are graduating. Goalie, LaPlante stood on her head much of the year with so many one-sided games.
As has been mentioned, I think there will have to be some international recruiting which so many of the better teams and utilizing. This looks like a rebuilding project for the coach and staff.
