Those scores look familiar. Same old non-competitvr efforts - maybe things turn around tonight

Wow. I thought the field hockey team was making positive strides with the new coach over the past few years, will have to see how the rest of the season works out.

Congrats to the women - let's hope there are more to come
looking at the FH stats, we were outshot 36-4 - I know we lost our best player to graduation but that is an ugly stat - thank goodness it's August

Is the men's game not on Patriot League Network? Says it is supposed to be but I can't find it on that Stadium network.

Lost 2-1. Played reasonably well. Second Fordham goal was a failure on our part.
Becher’s foot skills and touches are quite impressive. He’s going to be great. The key had to be the coach finding ways to get him the ball with space to operate

Field Hockey review:
WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team fell in its season opener today, 9-1, at the University of Maine. Senior Emily Loprete picked up the Crusaders’ first goal of the season with Madeline Alderfer recording the assist.
The Black Bears got on the board first just two and a half minutes into the game when Brittany Smith found Libby Riedl who hit a well-struck ball into the back of the net. Maine would make it 2-0 after a goal by Hana Davis in the 11th minute.
After a couple opportunities by both sides, Holy Cross would earn back to back penalty corners. On the second one, Alderfer sent in a shot from 10 yards out that Loprete was able to deflect past Maine’s keeper to pull within one. But the Black Bears would end the half on a 3-0 run, all of which were scored by Samantha Wagg, to take the 5-1 lead into halftime.
Maine would continue on its hot streak in the second half, shutting Holy Cross out and scoring four goals on the offensive end to earn the 9-1 victory.
The Crusaders will be back in action next Friday, Aug. 31 when they travel to Northeastern at 6:00 p.m.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Junior Marcia LaPlante picked up an impressive 18 saves. Maine was able to outshoot Holy Cross, 36-4. The Black Bears also held the advantage in penalty corners, 18-3.
*** Talk about total domination, shots 36-4!!!

Maine has a good team so no surprise that we lost. The complete annihilation is a little troubling but not necessarily a reason to give up hope that we can be competitive in the PL. Our goalie is very good so we’ll have a shot in most PL games.

Volleyball loses all 4 matches in California, combining to lose 12 sets and winning one. We have a few players from Cal, so at least their families saw them play, albeit in losing efforts. Let's hope this is not another fruitless season for this sport

Volleyball relying heavily on freshmen and sophomores. It's going to be a difficult year.
