Not quite “You Have Chosen Wisely!” but perhaps this year’s version ...

Spence was one of the early offers during this recruiting season. He attends the same high school as incoming freshman OL Patrick McMurtrie.
According to Rivals, Spence had 15 offers -- mostly from FCS schools but also from Army, Navy, UMass and Western Michigan. The Rivals list of offers does not include UNH or Delaware, but Spence also had offers from both of those schools according to his Twitter page.
In the Patriot League, Spence also had offers from Lehigh, Lafayette, Fordham and Colgate. In the Ivy League, he had offers from Columbia, Cornell, and Penn.

When do the protests start against all of those militaristic crossed swords? Player tweets about getting an offer from Holy Cross is the first time I can remember seeing them associated with Holy Cross. They don't necessarily offend me but look more appropriate for the yearbook of the New York Military Academy.

Maybe the swords are a symbol to be associated with his high school mascot - St. Joseph’s Green Knights.

or perhaps it just means he’s ready for battle on the gridiron. Good for him. Hope all our recruits use the crossed swords.

This is a heck of a start to the commitment season. A long DB with 15 offers - 4/5 of which came from FBS - I believe he may also have been offered from No. Illinois. Plus beating out Delaware, UNH and all of PL. We all know it only matters if they can play on the field, but as of now you can only assess based on the quality of other offers and this is a great get.

Having seen him play, I believe he is indeed a great get. Hopefully the first of many.

Will we likely keep him at cornerback?

KY -- I think we would need a crystal ball to answer that question, and mine is not working at the moment. I had Spence listed as an Athlete -- one recruiting site lists him as a WR, another as a DB. The commitment tweet indicates he will be a DB at Holy Cross. My thinking is that he probably will play one of the safety positions (perhaps at FS), but that's just a guess.

Great get. I always feel like the kid who commits first will be a strong team leader. Not sure if there’s any evidence for that but I feel it anyway.

Breezy, Have you considered. a new thread for commits ?
|
|
|
Post by breezy on Jul 1, 2019 18:55:05 GMT -5
I have not thought about that -- I think it's all part of the recruiting thread -- but I'll consider it if posters indicate they would prefer it.

It has the advantage of separating commits from new offers.

I think a separate thread for commits would be helpful. Lots of content already on this thread and sometimes hard to find the commit info.

Decent idea. Maybe someone different take the lead on that to help Breezy out. . He’s only one Crusader

Lehigh uses a Google docs spreadsheet to keep track of its offers / commitments. See: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YpJI9jxtoZPLHYjx-I6M2A_j9ku-Dtgmk4gLkjgmPxY/edit#gid=0Setting up something like this is beyond my computer capabilities. However, if someone wants to set it up, I can provide the details. It has to be secure so that only authorized persons can access it and make changes. Richh is the person who provides the data for Lehigh.

Note spreadsheet's #40, 'Committed' Holy Cross... is this new? also if someone does this, consider separating 'Other Offers' into "PL/IL" & "Et Al" lists
