Expect it for sure with the higher level of recruit we are now pursuing.

Expect it for sure with the higher level of recruit we are now pursuing. The staff may have half-expected this. Why else would you recruit two strong QBs in the same class given no redshirting and FCS roster constraints. Because of scollie constraints, HC is basically limited to 10-11 full scollies every year, unless one does as Lehigh did before TG, load up on the fulls, and pray.

Could HH possibly be looking at the Ivies? Wouldn't it be ironic if he went to H/Y and we had to face off against him? Not sweet at all... LoveHC The Clemson board link (which is concededly dated) I gave said that one of Clemson's 2020 QB offers was going to sign with Arkansas.

It’s not out of the ordinary to recruit two strong qb’s in the same class. Would you rather us recruit 1 strong qb and 1 weak one?

To clarify my post - many here we’re suggesting over the summer that Butash was ready to compete for the starting job from day one - that did not happen because of the the significant jump from private high school to the FCS -he’s got the potential to be special for sure but it’s a process

Technically, ALL of the QBs have been competing for a starting position since day #1. That does not mean he will ever start this season. These things take time. What folks forget is that every QB already here has been working all year and every day in season to get that spot

The Helms defection is good news for Butash’s chances of ever seeing the field when the job is open in ‘21.

is there a sunny side to this decommit? schollie $$ available at other positions especially since our QB situation seems more stable than in pre season

I don’t follow daddyball but perhaps he could also be opening up his recruiting because HC lightened up in some manner. Maybe he does not want to be 1 of 2 incoming highly-touted QBs. Could just be part of the game when a team is destroying it with recruiting.

Obviously, the school that HH signs with will tell us all we need to know about the reason he decommitted from HC. I confess that I am going to quite interested. LoveHC The school of course, but also the other QBs in his class and on the roster. No vaunted QB is going to put himself in a position to ride the bench for 4 years. The kid from BC who went to Brown is a good example of what can happen at such a high level of play. Certainly not easy for any QB to find his way onto the playing field.

if Clemson and Michigan are actually involved, his decision is certainly understandable

Actually, maybe not. Much depends on what involvement there is.
For example, is there a scholarship offer on the table? Apparently not, since the student-athlete has not stated as much. Perhaps an offer, if there is one, is for a Preferred Walk-On (PWO). I think we have had this discussion before, since at least a couple of HC players had PWO offers from big-time schools but chose nevertheless to come to Holy Cross.
There are cases, of course, where walk-ons develop and become stars or players that contribute and eventually are awarded scholarships. My sense, though, is that this occurs only for a small percentage of walk-ons. If a team that has 85 available scholarships does not see fit to offer one of those scholarships to a prospective recruit, it means that the team views him (at best) as being the 86th most valuable player on the roster (and will have no problem recruiting over him in the next recruiting class).
In my view, the most common circumstance is that the student-athlete in that situation has a choice -- does he want to [1] pay tuition, be part of a big-time program, be a scout team player for four years, and enjoy the excitement of football Saturdays while cheering his team from the sidelines, or [2] get a full scholarship, play football on Saturdays and be a contributing factor to the success of his team? Either choice is reasonable, and I do not disparage any student-athlete who makes either choice. But I have to think that many student-athletes may have unreasonable expectations, or may not fully appreciate the consequences of the choice they are making.

Pretty much spot on analysis.

Breezy, your analysis makes so much sense objectively but I also happen to think that subjectively too many high school athletes think they can and will beat the odds. But, it is their life and only they know what they perceive is the right thing to do.
My guess in this case, is he is gone and has chosen for the two birds in the bush over the one in his hand. Good luck to him in either case.

Disappointing but as others have stated, something we have to expect recruiting in the deep end of the pool.

Of Clemson's 20 hard commits, one is a QB: DJ Uiagalelei from St. John Bosco in LA, Highlights of his game against Mater Dei last month here. St. John Bosco lost 38-24. 247sports.com/Video/QB-DJ-Uiagalelei-game-highlights-9493121/Helms is not going to displace a QB who had nearly 30 Power Five offers. Of the 20 Clemson commits, only one is in-state. Maybe Dabo wants to show more in-state love. Also, if he was a PWO, Helms would pay in-state cost of attendance, which would not be true for Michigan if he was a PWO there.

Helms plays at a high school with a little over 400 students. Siderman plays at a high school with a little over 2,300 students. Best of luck to Helms.
Now let's get a stud OL/DL with Helms' scholarship.

I vote DL. We have 5 OL in the mix already. 7 spots (approximation) - DT, DT, DE, K, TE, ?, ? (they could look at another QB)

Glad Dobbs shirked the Michigan PWO offer and could end up being the PL Defensive Rookie of the year.....and lead the team in tackles.

Just offered a 3 star 2020 DB Air Force commit. Not that helms wanted it, but the offer is probably not there anymore.
