The men's season starts Oct 12-13 with games vs. Canisius at the Hart - looks like modest expectations for this year's team. Big question is in goal, with Berrafatto (sp?) having graduated.
Poll is out today

Beau Collins, a junior goalie, is on the roster this year after having played club at HC. Played juniors in Portland, ME. Should have good defence in front of the starter with Spencer Trapp returning and a great freshman named Bryce Dolan from Kimball Union. Led the team to NEPSAC championships and dominated the front of the net last year.

I wonder how Gordon will do against the level of competition. Still, I think our defence should be a strong point. Only time will tell

As for the latter's "worrisome" numbers in college, he's played a grand total of six games in net over three years - the definition of "small sample size."

There might be some growing pains in net, but with the current team, there might be fewer shots on goal this year (certainly fewer than Collins' time with club). Optimistic about our PK this year. Our offense will be interesting as it plays out.
Surprise we dont have a non-conference tilt or an exhibition to start the season

Instead of a “walk on” , he’s a “skate on”?

One interesting note that I overlooked in my previous comments, is the state of Atlantic Hockey. There has been increased parity and several coaches expressed difficulty in picking the bottom half of the league in the Coaches Poll. This year, however, a number of teams have lost key pieces from previous runs. Army and Air Force lost a ton to graduation (but at least Air Force returns their key goalie), while Canisius brings back most of their key players (Charles Williams is a significant loss but I think they can win the league). Mercyhurst, who put up goal after goal against HC but was lacking on D lost a lot of their points to graduation. Surprising Sacred Heart and AIC seem like they return a good deal and will be competitive. Looking at the poll, I think several teams, namely Air Force, Army, RMU, and Mercyhurst are overrated in the poll (Army is probably closer to being correct at No. 6 than the others). RMU lost 9 seniors but returns a solid goalie and a great forward in a guy by the name of Alex Tonge. I can't imagine RMU having a second consecutive "off" year, but I can't believe they will finish higher than 5th. Holy Cross and Sacred Heart seem a bit low in the poll. Here is a helpful USCHO article: www.uscho.com/2018/10/01/after-competitive-17-18-season-atlantic-hockey-looks-like-this-will-be-the-case-again-this-year/
