There will be a very unofficial pre-game "reception" at 11am at Moynagh's for those interested. i might have to do Mezcal, unless I can drop kids with their unsuspecting, but very loving grandparents.

We have to get rid of all these weekend day game starts. Just not going to get decent crowds. I, for one, would absolutely have gone to this game if it started at 7 or so...no way I can get there for a 1 tip.
What's up with that Canisius 2pm tip on a Thursday all about btw?

Lehigh, Bucknell and maybe other PL teams will be quality opponents. Despite its record, Iona may be also. Much too early to determine who will be quality in Feb or March.

87, you have my sympathies that the time conflicts with higher priorities for you. However, for some people (moi, for example), 1:00 pm on Saturday is just fine. Helps to get back home in daylight which becomes more and more important as you age.

URI's point guard and principal three point shooter Fatts Russell is 7-43 (.163) from beyond the arc and 14-46 (.304) on twos. He may be primarily a playmaker, but those are some abysmal shooting numbers that we hope continue when we play.

From the Bishop Connolly lockah-room to the Centrum doors, probably a little ovan an hour (at best)....really no way I wouldn't be sitting at the Centrum before 1:30 at the very least. Just doesn't make sense to go at that point...go home and watch the entire game on my computah.

Seriously though, if we continue to have a "marquee game" at the DCU every year against someone from a Power Conference (PC, BC, UConn etc) it really should be a night game. Makes it more of an "event"...people can go to bars and restaurants in the area before and after the game. A 1 o'clock tip really does nothing for the HC basketball brand...just another game on a crowded, busy Saturday afternoon in December.

While Russell's atrocious shooting does stand out, almost the entire URI team (save Langevine from the field but not the ft line) is shooting very poorly. The team plays hard and their D is good. They just haven't been able to put the ball through the hoop.
Russell (Sophomore) is new to being the main PG at URI. It had been Jeff Dowtin the past two years. He (Dowtin) was moved off the ball this season given he was much taller and the thought was he could be more of a scorer. Many Rhody fans think this change was a big mistake given the results so far. Russell came off the bench last year and saw limited minutes given the team had five seniors with much experience. He was not a main contributor that was relied on to carry the team. He was a high energy guy that came off the bench into games to give others a breather. He shot much better last year in that role and actually took over some games such as against Providence. His pick in the NCAA against Trae Young after a URI made three followed by his own immediate three showed he had game.
URI lost five key players that had won NCAA Tournament games two straight years. There is just one player (Dowtin) that started at the end of last year that is now starting. Langevine, while he saw a lot of time last season, was only the starter early on before Berry replaced him. The main returnees - Dowtin, Langevine, and Russell were given different roles this season and are still adapting. URI was hoping that its best ever recruiting class (including top 75 player Jarmaine Harris) would quickly have an immediate impact. That has not been the case as they are struggling as most freshmen do. In addition to all the player changes, URI has a new coach that has never had a college head job.
This looks like it may be transitional year for URI. The good news for Ram fans is that basically the entire main core of the team returns in 2019-20.
If I were a betting man, I actually would make Holy Cross the favorite this Saturday. Will be there via my Crusader comp tickets to see what transpires.

Maybe 1PM will allow a family crowd to attend...rich families at those prices. HC has been spending a few bucks on advertising the game on Telegram.com and perhaps other outlets.

Maybe 2pm would have been a decent compromise. I can empathize with sader1970, though - last week after the Harvard game I got detoured on my way home. Had my face pressed up against the windshield at one corner trying to make sure there was no island in the middle of the street while I was turning! Man, getting old not so much fun sometimes.

When I coached HS kids, we would have practice at 6:30 am. Built character in them, and I knew they wouldn’t stay out late at night. Or maybe it’s you who stays out too late. . . .

Thanks for the detailed scout I am more concerned about their strong defense
