Massey has HC as a 4 point favorite on Sunday against Bryant (69-65) with a 60% chance for the win. The Bulldogs are 2-8. They opened their season with wins over MA Lowell and Brown, but are currently on an 8 game losing streak (Maine, WV, BU UNH, Brown Providence, BC and Hartford).

Only a 4 point favorite vs. a weak Bryant team ? Speaks to our ooc schedule. Let’s hope we play well and win convincingly While we’re prepping for this game, one of the league favorites, Bucknell is challenging themselves with a game today at Iowa state, always a power in the. Big 12. Just checked that game and it’s 45-21 Cyclones at the half (was a one point lead after 1)

Unfortunately the second quarter score was ISU 28, Bucknell 6. Had three players in foul trouble by early in the 2nd quarter. And 4-24 on threes didn't help. Official attendance was 10,261. Iowa State may have the best fan base in the nation for a women's program.

Better than UConn ?

You could certainly make that case. Iowa State has averaged almost as many fans per game as UConn over the past decade, despite never having a real strong team. For example, last year UConn, who was undefeated until the NCAA tournament, averaged 10,026 per game (2nd in the nation). Iowa State, who was 14-17 overall, drew 9,870 per game (3rd in the nation). In UConn's defense, they do charge more per ticket - but ISU's ability to draw crowds like that even with mediocre teams is very impressive. As you probably know, Iowa for many decades had the most interest in girls HS basketball of any state in the nation, often drawing crowds of 10,000-15,000 for games in the girls tournament. Apparently that interest has carried over to ISU basketball.

Final 81-62, played very well most of the game, a little worrying that a couple of times got big leads and then got sloppy, Manis w/ 22 & 8 in only 25 mins, Labarbera 13 & 8 rebs, Swords 8 & 13, Ezemma , Pedi & Demski all played well. Still no Faulkner, would love to know the nature of her injury. It appeared based on pregame warmups that besides Faulkner, Mazza & Murphy not working out, Petro was in a boot so effectively only 10 active for the game.

Given the talent on our team led by Lauren and 3 other juniors who have played a lot, the 8-3 record is right where we should be - I don't know if we've distinguished ourselves to move up from the 'middle of the pack' in the league but now that opportunity presents itself. The Faulkner injury is a mystery and she would really help if she can get healthy.
I saw Pat Benzan play very well in a career high (?) 35 minutes at Iona, and we've mentioned his sister a few times here. Well, it was a big day for both of them as Katie Benzan led Harvard over 14th ranked Cal 85-79 in Berkley. She's an All Ivy guard and played like it: 37 minutes - 19 points - 10 assists and 'one' turnover. I hope someday HC can compete in this type of a game. Just another example of the Ivies recruiting at a very high level in women's bball as well.

John B came to the Iona game. Could mom have travelled to Berkeley?
