Alexander Escada set a school record in the heptathlon with 4629 points while finishing fourth (about 30 points out of second) at the New Englands this weekend. Michael Pichay broke his own school record in the triple jump going 49'2" to finish third. He has improved over two and half feet since arriving at HC. I looked at the nationals qualifying lists for D1, 2 and 3. Pichay doesn't even make the top 75 in Division 1 (16 will qualify.) He would be 10th in D2 and would be the top performer in the country in D3. Escada would be 14th in D3. Given the lack of scholarships and the poor indoor facilities, these are two pretty talented kids that Coach Kavanagh and his staff have recruited and developed. goholycross.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=33100&ATCLID=211788967

It was those scholarships that got HC some of the best track and field stars in the country. With that little banked wood track by Kimball, it sure wasn't the facilities.
