Attendance at Holy Cross declined this year to a total gate of 16,738 for 13 games with an average of 1,288. The Cross drew 21,340 for the same number of games last season for an average of 1,641.
For some regional perspective, these were the averages for the New England schools with the highest attendance:
Providence 9,924 (17) UConn 8,652 (18) URI 5,797 (14) BC 5,243 (18) UMass-Amherst 2,792 (17) Vermont 2,651 (15*)
* Includes ongoing AE league tourney games

Holy Cross had the 7th best average in 2017-18. I have not looked at all the schools, but it would appear that many leapfrogged them this year. Harvard averaged 1,550. Fairfield, even with moving the majority of its games back to campus from Bridgeport, had a better average than HC this past season drawing a total 17,484 to 12 games for an average of 1,457.

Believe this is less than half of what it was a decade ago, and about a hundred fewer per than at the end of FCMB's tenure. Don't have the figures for the Raynor years, but it wouldn't surprise me if this was the worst in at least 25 years.

We were sub 1,000 in Ralph's first season, I believe.

I would compare HC more to Harvard, Umass Lowell, Boston U Than I would to BC, Umass, Providence and Connecticut
Besides Vermont because there is nothing to do in Vermont. All the others have nice arenas, they play in good conferences against teams that gain national recognition. All of them outside of Proveidence have a lot of students that can help the attendance.
HC needs to revaml the Hart Center. Ilike the purple coloring but some need to get rid of the bleachers and make it more like an arena instead of gym. So many nice models around the country.

The Hart can't be disrupted until the new rec. center is open because I assume they need the space that collapsible bleachers provide for Intramurals. After that, chair seats to replace at least the sideline bleachers is a good idea.
With all games on the internet or TV, positive game day experience becomes critical...before they have to put purple sweatshirts on crash test dummies to fill the stands for the occasional ESPN game.

This list of the top six makes another point. I think the PC per game attendance exceeds either the Paw Sox or the AHL Providence Bruins per game attendance. If HC could ever get good again, competition from the Woo Sox and Railers is not a road block to filling the Hart.

What does Lavietes, Case, or Costello have that the Hart does not? As we have seen 10-15 years ago, when you win they will come. We regularly drew 2,500+ for about an eight year stretch. Fans are not coming for the arena, they're coming for the product. Patrick Gymnasium is a glorified high school gym, and UVM packs it because they are very good.

I'd argue that our average figure for '18-'19 is fairly inflated....or very much skewed towards including Homecoming, maybe the URI game at the Centrum etc. There were a fair amount of games this year that couldn't have had more than 500 actual souls in attendance.
HC hoop is an increasingly tough draw these days. Above and beyong our own sub-par on court performance, the opponents are nearly always "meh" (to the average layperson), the game experience including parking, concessions, other ancillary things (lack of a jumbotron, band not always there etc etc) is lacking. It's just not a very enticing product overall right now.
Will a consistent, winning program solve all these ills? I'd like to think so but I'm somewhat skeptical.

Railers average YTD attendance of 4,197 is down slightly from their inaugural season (4,393).
