I have been reading a bit lately about the NCAA transfer portal that was created last fall. As I understand it, a player can place his/her name in the portal and then wait and see if there is interest from coaches of other schools in recruiting them to their program. As of a few weeks ago, there were 700 names in the portal for D 1 men's basketball players. UMass had seven in the portal. Seems to me this creates chaos for coaches and schools. I kind of wonder how much longer D 1 basketball will exist as it is.

given that the schollies are year to year at most schools... wonder what % are motivated by uncertainty of next season versus those that are unhappy with some aspect of their bball program

Very few are related to one year renewals I think I read some where that the majority of coaches recently voted against a recommendation to cut back on the freedom to transfer. Why? What I read was about the grad transfer situation see below /www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/ncaa-relaxes-transfer-rules-opens-immediate-eligibility-to-athletes-in-certain-situations/

Maybe the coaches realize in a lot of cases they are better off going after someone who wants to play for them rather than stubbornly hang on to someone who, for whatever reason, does not.

For a person who's a student only, it's not easy to get a master's degree in a year. Throw full time college football/basketball into the mix and you're slowing down the progress even more, even if the (hate to use the phrase) student/athlete is sincere about it.

Did RJ complete his master's at UConn? I know he made a positive contribution on the court and in the locker room as a veteran leader from news coverage at the time.

From the UNC-Asheville Athletics website
"A native of Salem, Conn., Evans actually has two Master's degrees. He received a Master's degree in Educational Psychology from UConn in 2013 and a Master's degree in Kinesiology from Texas in 2017. Evans picked up his Bachelor's degree in Economics from Holy Cross in 2012. "

" Pure speculation, but this doesn't necessarily mean RJ pulled off the difficult task of getting a Masters in one year (ignoring pre-set programs like HC has with ND). It is possible that he graduated in December of 2013. Still impressive in 1 1/2 years. He might have done it in one year, but he might not. As they used to say in logic class, "A" does not imply "B" No record of any basketball activities for the 2013-14 season

Might have also taken a summer course or two at UConn in the summer of 2012 as I'm sure he was on campus acclimating himself to his new basketball teammates.

If RJ has the same initiative in his career he had driving to the hoop at the Hart he will be successful.

Didn't he also spend a year right after UConn in the UK, going to school there as well? Or am I thinking of AK34....or someone else?

Three of their frosh are leaving this Spring. Wonder if they will try and tighten the reins on that whenCoach K retires.
