...who will be relied upon to bail out an AAU-style terrible X's and O's coach.

If they do bail him out, it will not be the first time that good players have bailed out a poor coach.

What's the problem with Kellogg? 54% career winning record, not bad

Kellogg is a real good guy, and a terrific recruiter, but he cannot handle a tight game. Makes errors across the board: time management, substitutions, set plays- you name it.
He can thank Bishop Ford's terrific Chaz Williams for keeping his job, as since Williams graduated - UMass has mostly been lousy.

That's ok, Sarasota. Take a look at this No. 21 guy in the purple. Not a 3 star recruit, not many offers (although that's deceiving, since he committed early). Not really thought of as one of the best players in the league. Yet, he seems to have turned out ok.......

The most impressive team stat from that Lehigh win was our 18 assists on 21 field goals Even the Warriors rarely hit it that percentage they were spread out with RC leading with 6 besides MA's 26 (6-7 from three) and 9, he had 3 assists and 0 Turnovers
in the NCAA win over .Southern, we had 14 assists on 18 FG MA led with 8
these assist stats are a direct result of great coaching and players who bought into unselfishness

Makes the number of stars rather irrelevant, doesn't it? Also loved RChamp's little draw and dish from the wing to an open MA in the corner in that first half. And how about EG, with his 3, and ballsy drive and pull up in the second half (sad that he only got 2.5 years). I know the guys have to put this behind and focus on what's ahead, but I can't help but look at these clips over and over.
Let the experts pick them for last place! We shall see what happens when the stars and offers take a seat, and the players take the floor.....

As a courtesy to Steve1981 (and any other posters who may have been there, like me), I just stumbled upon the 1992 UMass-Syracuse second round NCAA game, at the Centrum. UMass had beaten PL champ Fordham, while Syracuse knocked off Princeton (I had forgotten about that). The Kentucky team that lost that epic game to Duke was also in this bracket, as well as Fred Hoiberg's Iowa State team (blanking on the other 2 teams). This was quite the game; remember the UMass fans going bonkers at the end (Centrum/DCU Center has not been kind to the Orange; what a shame).

Half the New England state flagship universities have knocked Syracuse out of the NCAA Tournament at some time. Surprisingly, UConn is not one of them as the Huskies are winless in two games vs the Orange in the tourney. It is URI (1988), UMass (1992), and UVM (2005) that have prevailed over the Cuse in March.

Yup, in the 2007-08 season UMass is the only team ever to beat Syracuse twice in the dome. We beat them in OOC play and then in the NIT quarter final. Was there and believe they had a 19 point lead at half-time. Extremely early in the second half when we were behind by 22 points, I turn to an acquaintance and said, we have never been blown out this year. Then we storm back. Now I was in the nose bleed seats and as leaving a Syracuse yells to me we got lucky and I yell back you guys choked. That was a very young, but talented team. We'll see how we do this year. Many are hoping for an NIT run.

My best memories of that game was Lawrence Moten bitching at the calls the whole game and 'cuse leaving the court right by me & my crew with Boeheim and the whole team staring at the floor & Mike Hopkins with an ice pack on his eye. Centrum was absolutely electric.

Hot young coach just winning his first of 5 consecutive A-10 champions. Other than that UMass game and UVM, Syracuse has done quite well at the Centrum

His recruiting tactics, inc for Camby in '91-92, were a clear sign into what evolved. he did not become a cheat overnight. he learned well in his first job as Larry Brown's assistant at Kansas
