And we thought the timing of Coach Willard's and Coach Carmody's unexpected departures were harsh

On a related note, when Bellein started his prior gig at LeMoyne, he brought in his own assistants. Normally not a big deal, however one of the assistants that was shown the door with the former head coach was Mike Smiley

They almost had to make him the permanent head coach. The damage done by Beilein's departure and the underlying scandal did serious damage to a program that was already reeling.

I feel like I missed a huge chunk of the story. without going through all the rumors, here are a few things that were reported: Beilein brought over a former LeMoyne women's coach (a female) as his new DOBO. He also brought over a male coach with whom she was in a close relationship. There apparently were problems from the start. Belein was accused of sexual harassment early on, and the three points of the triangle clashed. Niagara hired an attorney to look into it and reportedly put all three on temporary leave. Then she hired an attorney and shortly thereafter Belein announced his resignation. Etc. There have been multiple reports (unconfirmed) that both Siena and Marist didn't hire Beilein a couple years ago due to reports of his womanizing that went back a number of years. He apparently also had a DUI while coaching at LeMoyne that Niagara didn't know about. Btw, the other two coaches reportedly involved are both still there and actively coaching. When he resigned, Belein only said: ""It has been a lifelong dream of mine to become a Division-I head basketball coach, but unfortunately, that dream must be put on hold. Personal reasons I can no longer take lightly have led me to step away from my dream job. Going forward, I must give singular focus to dealing with these issues, so that I can become the man that I strive to be. In time, it is my hope that I can be more open about my ongoing circumstances, but in the meantime, I thank you all for respecting my family's need for privacy." Perhaps Louisville will hire him next year.

Greg Paulus went to my high school, CBA in Syracuse. He has a great sports pedigree and should be a phenomenal coach for the Purple Eagles!

Greg Paulus went to my high school, CBA in Syracuse. He has a great sports pedigree and should be a phenomenal coach for the Purple Eagles! Only time will tell, but I have wondered why his career did not advance as fast as the others in the Coach K tree - especially given how well known he is. Also wondered why he never ended up as an assistant for Coach K, unlike most of the other Duke alum coaches. His career path has kind of been stuck in neutral. Yes, he had two jobs where the coach got fired - but each time he ended up at a lesser program. - 2010–2011 Navy (#5 assistant) - 2011–2013 Ohio State (video coordinator) - 2013–2017 Ohio State (#3 assistant) - 2017–2018 Louisville (#3 assistant, then #2 after Pitino fired) - 2018–2019 George Washington (#3 assistant) - 2019–present Niagara (assistant coach, then head coach)

The way I remember the story, Marist offered Dunne, he said no, then they offered Beilein, after a few days he said no. Then Dunne and wife reconsidered and accepted the Marist job.

Then Dunne and wife reconsidered and accepted the Marist job. As I google it, that appears to be correct. If so, it contradicts two reports on message boards that said Marist had numerous conversations with him but never actually made an offer.
