Unfortunate for him and the team. A real competitor

Lafayette announced yesterday that jr. guard Alex Petrie will miss the entire season with a 'medical condition' (no details) he's been a starter since freshman year and a big blow to their team's prospects He had a very good freshman year offensively and was voted ROY. Last year he lost his starting job - presumably due to his defense and declining shooting pct. Was replaced in the starting lineup by EJ Stephens. Still, even if he is not a starter, he is a valuable player off the bench.

That's a shame; hope he gets back. Tough loss for the Pards.

Ugh. Hate to see these things. Hope he recovers fully from whatever is going on.

I hope he is OK but out for a vague “medical condition” does not sound like your typical sports injury and to be out for the full season sounds very serious. I am sure we all wish him the best for a healthy recovery.

Petrie - Career vs. HC 5G, 119m, 111p - 37 Pts/40m
51.4% FG (37-72), 61% 3FG (25-41).

For one reason or another the league has lost some talented players who could have made a difference for their respective teams this year, Green and Grandison for HC, Iorio at American, Scanlon and Guest at BU, Strong at Navy Andree and Bennett at Lehigh and now Petrie for Lafayette.

And I was going to make an exaggerated post about how he shot about 60% from three against us the past two seasons. He actually did! For the sake of PL basketball, I look forward to him returning healthy in 2020.

And the biggest potential difference-maker, Nate Sestina, who looks like he will play major minutes for Kentucky this year.

Unless I'm mistaken Sestina had no eligibility remaining at Bucknell so he was never going to play in the league this year unlike the others mentioned.

This junior class has taken some big hits....as freshmen I thought they were one of the best classes in league history. Just my opinion; I'm sure if there were better ones statistically I'll hear about it soon enough.

Unless I'm mistaken Sestina had no eligibility remaining at Bucknell so he was never going to play in the league this year unlike the others mentioned. No, he had a year of eligibility left at Bucknell, just as he had one year left at any school that he chose to go to. The issue was whether or not Bucknell would allow him to pursue an academic program to stay in school to use the final year of eligibility. Had it been a decade earlier, he would’ve had a number of options to remain, but that is no longer true. If he had been admissible into a graduate degree program in engineering or education, he also could have used that last year of eligibility.

So he was not admissible. Does that mean academically not admissible ?

My understanding was that Sestina was able to move to a higher profile program without sitting a year because he had graduated. Very common move nowadays.
I never interpreted his departure from Bucknell after four years (and a degree) as something he was reluctant to do. (I'm not even sure if he had pursued a medical redshirt thru the PL). I don't recall a possibility (or lack thereof) of remaining and entering graduate school at Bucknell being part of his decision at all. I admit I don't follow Bison hoops regularly but do recall reading a couple of articles about his departure.

I sincerely hope no one complains about any future posts on the careers of Jacob Grandison or Caleb Green, given all the Sestina related posts we've had. It's like we almost need a separate thread for the kid.

If you mean on paper I agree. In real terms their experience is a loss, but only time will tell if others step up and limit the impact of their departure.

Even if Grandison and Green’s replacements play well, it may be hard to determine how much not only their experience, but their considerable production will be missed. Considering our record last season, most especially in the PL, it will probably be very difficult, unless we really achieve beyond expectations, to judge their loss by wins and defeats.

It's like we almost need a separate thread for the kid. You’ll be happy to know there already is a separate Nate Sestina thread (and it’s two pages long). crossports.freeforums.net/thread/3841/nate-sestina-grad-transferBeyond that, it does seem threads on Crossports occasionally meander from their topic.😀
