I was asked today from an ex-teammate “How come Milan wasn't given this kind of rope”. I had no answer for him… This is going to get very bad. I can tell you for a fact: his former players are INCENSED over the double standard. That is literally what I’m trying to communicate. It is the number 1 reason why I was adamant about a swift/prompt dismissal day 1. The opportunity has been blown, the door is now wide open for any and all despicable reasons (or 1 REASON) as to why Brett Nelson is still coaching this team. Holy Cross…you blew it..again.

I am completely stunned, stupefied, bewildered, flummoxed, incredulous and so forth and so on that there has been complete silence from the top of Mt St James. Here’s still hope that we will be making a change - just un******* believable.

And I don’t doubt that his players are and the way they fired him was a disgrace.

We do have a bit of history in doing that. As someone once said, "We have met the enemy and it is us." Not sure how I will respond to next fall's email about renewing my season tickets.

I wonder if the D-1 Football coaching community got their knickers in a bunch when Holy Cross had the audacity to hire a D-2 coach from little known Assumption? The coach who turns around HC MBB is not going to be someone who has his ear pinned to what the coaching community thinks and never dares step outside their conformity rules, or dares to think outside the box. It's probably not going to be a "name" the coaching community approves of in lockstep. It's going to take a proven winner we can afford who is betting on himself and doesn't give a hoot what the coaching community thinks. Someone who wins at HC will soon be the darling of the coaching community and everyone else anyway. So if some applicant is scared away by what the coaching community thinks, good. We dodged a bullet. This board was up in arms that Chesney was even getting mentioned. crossports.freeforums.net/post/44667crossports.freeforums.net/post/44668crossports.freeforums.net/post/47768crossports.freeforums.net/post/47812crossports.freeforums.net/post/48485That is just from the first two pages Not listed here, but I still like the line I used that we should extend our coaching search beyond someone who can get to HC via the Consortium van.....

Maybe I’m just stupid, or forgot how Byzantine the admin on the Hill can be. But I never, ever thought they would keep this guy after this year.
I already told ADKH last year that I wasn’t donating to the CAF until Nelson was fired. Now I’m going to have to consider dropping my season tickets too. Why on earth should I support this program in any way?

I'm going to give it until Monday. I can't believe BN would be retained.

It’s hard to believe that we have not yet jettisoned this guy. It is frightening to think that we may be giving him another year

The first big and critical decision Kit Hughes has on his hands. One that he’s known about since the day he was hired.
Big time fail.

I still believe we will move on from Nelson shortly but the delay is really hard to understand. If we keep him for any reason, not one person here should renew season tickets or donate to basketball until the change is made. I know people are proud of their long track record of being a season ticket holder and don’t want to break their consecutive season streaks but we should have literally 0 season ticket holders next year if he stays.

I'll renew HC women's hoops season tickets I might buy them for the first time just to make the point that programs worthy of support will be supported.

I was asked today from an ex-teammate “How come Milan wasn't given this kind of rope”. I had no answer for him… This is going to get very bad. I can tell you for a fact: his former players are INCENSED over the double standard. Milan Brown had 5 years, and inherited a much better program than Nelson (1 year removed from RW). Milan has a 12-year track record as a head coach and it’s very clear what he is — a below .500 head coach. “You are what your record says you are.” Him getting fired after year 5 has nothing to do with the current potential major mistake of bringing Nelson back for a 5th year. Neither is a good fit to be the head coach at Holy Cross. We were also making a big mistake in allowing Carmody to return for a 5th year. This handling of this program has been completely botched every which way by the ADs and TPTB since the day RW left for Louisville.

Still trying to wrap my head around of what seems to be the thinking on the Hill of "Nah, we're good" for retaining a head coach who has gone 2-31 in OOC games, has had countless players transfer or quit undah his watch, has led to crowds to being smaller than Worcester North HS games etc etc etc.....in the immortal words of Sheriff Taggart in "Blazing Saddles'....I am depressed.

I have to believe BN is going to be fired. In his four years even mediocrity has proven elusive, let alone excellence. KH understands, TPTB understand. Maybe they're negotiating a buy-out. Money can't be used as a justification to keep a coach who has failed like BN has.

Does anyone know whether a typical head coaching contract allows him to take another coaching job without reduction of this payout? Would that be the reason for some sort of negotiation?

I started with season tickets in 1967 @ the Worcester Auditorium not always in my name until my friend quit when they joined the PL. Not sure I can continue as this is the bottom of the barrel. The OOC schedule is poor and the league is holding us back. Now is the time for the AD to get this program back on track. If the school is the problem time to give up my tickets.

We (as in TPTB at Holy Cross) are the problem. From the perspective of someone who's also a long-suffering Fordham fan on the side, the Patriot League is a dull basketball wasteland. But at this point to say "the league is holding us back" would be an incorrect statement.

“Him getting fired after year 5 has nothing to do with the current potential major mistake of bringing Nelson back for a 5th year” -White guy. Some people seem to be missing the point of what jaredcurry and Ray are bringing up (as they often miss mine). Guys that are loyal to Coach Brown are “pissed” and they have every right to be. First loyalty to their coach. More importantly BN has been an abject failure in so many ways. The in game coaching is horrible, so many of the players that he has recruited hand left the team or the College and he’s a terrible representative of the school. No interaction with with anyone plus he has the demeanor of an unsympathetic funeral director. If they let Coach Brown go, 4 or 5 years not being a relevant factor, this guy should be gone. And for whatever my opinion is worth, using the criteria I set forth above, Coach Brown was a much better coach and representative of our College.
