I was flipping thru channels last night and came to UCF vs Cincy on ESPN U. The announcers were talking about Holy Cross. One said, “I don’t think Bob Cousy and his family would be happy with what we just said. Maybe we should have said Holy Cross won’t be a candidate for an at large bid this year.” I missed what preceded those comments. Did anyone hear the entire comment string?

It's true what they say. If we are getting mentioned in national broadcasts during games that don't even involve Holy Cross, Nate Pine did place us back in the national consciousness.

Well, what did they say? If it's too depressing, keep it to yourself.

Well right now it's clear we're the worst team still in D1* to once-upon-a-time make the Final Four.
I do remember the same thought coming up during the Raynor years when we played Drake- the loser of that game would take possession of that dubious honor. As it so happened, HC won.
*NYU and CCNY dropped to D3

CCSU has probably moved ahead of us after their win over FDU this week - so we’ve hit bottom in New England

In Ken Pomeroy's rankings we are #344 with virtually no chance to drop to even the bottom five, barring a succession of 50 point losses

I don't think we are going to be spending much time in the depths, so I'm not losing too much sleep. I am more than curious how a Cinci-UCF game produced commentary on HC!

nobody on cincinatti or ucf is a cousy award finalist, so the only connection to hc i can think of, albeit indirect, is that colgate (a representative of the pl in which once strong hc was a member) beat cincinnati this year?
that or some general mention of the worst teams in the country this year, teams with first year coaches that are struggling this year, or programs that have fallen from prominence? otherwise, why pick on us?!?

Game is archived and streaming on ESPN. What was the approximate time left in the game or game score when you heard the comments. I'll fast forwrd to that point and get the context.

Announcers no doubt offended by the Crusader moniker.

I thought it was going to be about Oscar Robertson and Bob Cousy coaching him in Cincinnati . Announcers talked a little bit about Oscar and one said that Oscar was the greatest player of all time better than Jordan and LeBron James And also said that Cincinnati was the second best team in the NBA but they couldn’t get by the Celtics. But then they were talking about Cincinnati Bearcats who this year won a game shooting only five for 16 from the free-throw line and they said they were tied for the worst in a win with a 15 shot minimum with holy cross (in looking it up holy cross had 5-16 in beating Navy ) it was about the 25:05 minute mark of the ESPN game
