Going for its 20th win tonight and at least a share of the NEC regular season championship in its first D1 season - but no NCAA or NIT bid will follow.
Three kids from St. Anthony's form the core.

And they have a commit from the best senior on Long Island(not at Long Island Lutheran), dynamic point Malik Edmead

Having coached against Bob Hurley once in the mid 70s, and watched many of his teams since,I know that his three alums certainly played a lot of D at St. Anthony’s. Strange that the article did not mention that the school closed after their graduation.

Opp EFG - 48.4% (127th) Def Efficiency - 93.4 (67th) Opp TO% - 25.2% (3rd) Steals/Defensive Play - 12.5% (1st)

Perhaps they weren't on the final St. Anthony's team? Fwiw, Bucknell's Xander Rice was on that final St.A team. As I'm sure you know, the star was RJ Cole - who is sitting out a transfer year at UConn at the moment.

The school closed in 2017. I presume the three graduated in 2016. I still think the article could have mentioned it.

Yes, those three graduated in 2016, one year before it closed. Like many St.A's players, Rice commuted about four hours (round trip) each day because he wanted to play for Hurley. He was on the team two years before it closed.

Coach Gallo is in the same mold as Coach Chesney. Win a championship in D-2, move up to D-1 in the same town, keep winning.

I'm sure (from a kid who signed on there for soccer) that at least the two lower classes were recruited to play Division 1 sports.
It's also possible the juniors knew where the program was going as well.

Is Merrimack now considered by parents a better choice than Holy Cross? The same question can be posed about Bryant, Sacred Heart and Quinnipiac? Have they now bettered us in athletics and applications? We only get 7000 apps. What does the aforementioned schools get in apps? Are we now a lowly D2 school in theory...

Merrimack gets the win at home over Central Ct State 69-58. Their 20th win of the year minimally secures a share of the NEC regular season title.

The attendance last night was 1404 in a gym that seats 1200. 204 people stood the whole game. Merrimack now offers D-1 BB, FB, Hockey and Baseball, joining the exclusive club HC, BC and other fine schools are in. I can't think of a single criticism of Merrimack Athletics.

Has Merrimack passed us in athletics yet? If not, is it only a matter of time?

When we say the world of collegiate athletics has changed over the years, the emergence of Merrimack is a perfect example. Not so long ago they were nothing vis a vis HC. Now they're competing with HC for talent, players and coaches. Then multiply Merrimack by a hundred. HC must be totally aware of this phenomenon. I don't believe HC's PTB are.

MBB yes WBB no MH yes WH no FB no Baseball yes
We are tied in these spectator sports. Opening FB game in Sept. will tell more. All sports above are relatively close except MBB. Did not look at records of MH, decided it on league affiliation as I see HE being a power conference with AHA being a mid major conference and both the PL and NEC being mid major conferences.
This post is in response to SOV's question.

Do you really think that HC's PTB are that clueless--that they are not aware of what is going on with other colleges in New England, the Northeast, or the whole country for that matter? Do you think that a visitor to this board is more up to date on college developments than people who run a college for a living?

These D-2 schools are saying "in for a dime in for a dollar" but it doesn't cost ten times as much to move up so why not? HC PTB have spent on new facilities, Nationwide searches and a fully loaded D-1 support staff. One thing Merrimack did with Coach Gallo is skip the expensive Nationwide search when they had a MBB opening and hire a guy they knew well who was a good fit at Merrimack. They didn't need the prestige of a Princeton/Northwestern or Notre Dame or Marquette background. They picked a guy they felt could win at Merrimack. A somewhat parallel would be HC bypassing Andy Sachs four times. He experienced winning in the PL and what that takes and has won everywhere before and after HC, but he doesn't have a prestigious pedigree. Having said that I'm rooting for Nelson to recruit and coach us out of the hole we're in, just like everyone else.
