Nichols BB lost last night and are now out of the NCAA Div 3 tournament. However, on Friday, they defeated Stevens Institute 74 -72 in Hoboken NJ. Playing for Stevens Institute was Michael Zignorski. He scored 15 point in 20 minutes. I assume this is Matt's younger brother.

Nichols coach last year, Scott Faucher, went 28-3 and Assumption's search firm found him 15 miles away. He turned Assumption around from 8-20 to 14-12 this year. Faucher had coached at St. Michaels and Bowdoin before Nichols. The grass isn't always greener with a nationwide search.

You keep saying that. Is Worcester County no longer part of the nation?
A nationwide search is AD-speak to say we have relevance nationwide and, to a lesser extent, we don't want to limit our search and will source candidates from anywhere.
Now might our ADs have entered the search with a bias for coaches (football & basketball) with DI experience as an assistant or head coach? Sure.
But that's a common bias. Believe it or not we had people posting here saying a DIII coach was wrong for the football team. But saying you're doing a nationwide search does not reveal such a bias.
So please stop implying a nationwide search somehow means they did not consider local lower division coaches. Neither of us know.

Several recent selections have been candidates associated with prestigious academic or basketball institutions like Notre Dame, Princeton, Northwestern, Marquette. I think that association is not a negative but also not a tangible asset that can necessarily be transferred to HC in the PL. I would place a higher emphasis on a coach who had personally built a championship team and since HC is a low mid major these days those candidates would mostly come from D-2/3. I think the skills needed for that accomplishment are more easily transferred to HC. My emphasis on geography is basically irrelevant with only a tiny advantage to a new Coach being comfortable and familiar with the area and local folks having a positive opinion of him or her. We got a lucky bonus with Coach Chesney's popularity and connections in Worcester but that is a rare exception.
