Based on this, I think we can list Lonergan as a "no" in the "Should HC have hired Pitino?" poll

Not a fan of Pittino or "big-time" college basketball, but Lonergan has his own baggage - not for nothing that Holy Cross passed on him years ago, and that he's still a "former" coach.

Even if it is all above board, the people at Duke and maybe more so the alumni, can’t be all that happy that Duke has become immersed in the one and done business.

A good place to start with cleaning things up would be for "one and done" to be "done for good".

A good place to start with cleaning things up would be for "one and done" to be "done for good". I hate the one and dones as much as anybody. But unless you make student-athletes sign contracts they have the right to leave school just as any other student can. If a finance major who's a wiz with numbers got a ridiculous offer on Wall Street during his Sophomore year should he not be able to leave school and take the job? Easiest solution for this is to allow HS players to go right to the NBA.

Something like baseball- which presently is you can sign right out of high school; if you go to college you can't get drafted for 3 years or you reach 21 years of age. Making freshman ineligible would be considered about as long as it takes to type "make freshmen ineligible".

The hockey system would work better...the pro teams can sign guys right out of high school but they keep their rights throughout the college days.

Semi off topic, but I thought good high school hockey players went to the juniors for a while to see if they can make the jump to pro. Then use college as a back up plan. Lots of 21+ year old freshmen hockey players

Lots of 21+ year old freshmen hockey players They do go play Juniors but drafted players that last all four years are usually just waiting until they can become free agents which they do in the summer after their senior season. Here is a 2017 Draft Pick who only played a year of juniors and two college seasons before turning pro. friars.com/news/2020/5/11/mens-ice-hockey-jack-dugan-agrees-to-join-vegas-golden-knights-organization.aspx

The NBA should drop the rule. That’s all. Adding rules and qualifications only makes things more difficult to enforce. Lots of kids will make bad decisions. So be it. That already happens. That’s their problem. Sports have perverted education and the one-and-done is the worst example.
