And how could I forget Dave Cowens, Jim McMillian, Charlie Scott, Randy Smith, Garfield Heard, Bill Paultz, George Irvine and many more. 56 members of the Class of 1970 played in at least one NBA season and 20 played in at least 7 seasons or more with several HOFers. Would be a tough group for any other graduating class to top

I remember seeing Power play against Trenton Catholic/Trenton Cathedral (that was the time they changed their name). TC had two very good players in Hice and Morowski (later played for UConn and for BC). It was. never close after the first few minutes. Power was so dominant it was almost unbelievable. Lew was amazing to watch and at times he made the game look almost effortless.

Power's loss to DeMatha.

If this is the tape I saw, the first half consists of DeMatha crowd shots. The second half shows DeMatha hoops and Power misses. This was Lew’s only loss in his last 3 years

I did not know Lew went into the DeMatha locker room after the game to congratulate them. Looked very classy!

I may have told my Kareem story before-- decades ago, my old boss was second in line to pay coming out of the parking garage at O'Hare airport. There was a delay. The attendant came out of his booth and came up to my boss's car and said "the man in the car in front of you has no cash. He said he will reimburse you if you will make the payment for him." My boss, wanting just to get going, gave the attendant the $10 and his business card to give to the first car's driver. The attendant returned with the business card of the man without cash and they all moved on. Later on my boss looked at the business card and it said "IOU $10.00 Kareem Abdul Jabbar". Three days later the check for $10.00 arrived in the mail. ---an honest man

Thanks, Ky Insightful story into Kareem’s character. I may have told this At Jack Donohue’s Memorial Service in Manhattan Kareem gave a beautiful eulogy, not mentioning basketball once. After the Mass he came to the reception and sat at a table for hours as anyone who wished took turns speaking with him. Some, including myself, took more than one turn. He did not mind.

Kareem was not so nice to Jack in one book he wrote (or, should I say, more specifically, the book was of the "as told to" variety). Glad that he and Jack's relationship took a turn for the better in later years.

The DeMatha team had Sid Catlett, Bob Whitmore, Ernie Austin and others who played high level college ball. Did Power Memorial have anyone other than Kareem?

A very exciting day to be at HC, esp in Kimball where Lewie received a standing O. We all knew the odds were very, very long, but there was that slight glimmer of hope, and fame. Thanks for that reminder. I was in Kimball that night, too. He came into the dining hall with Texeira, The students (including me) went wild. I've always thought that that reception killed whatever miniscule chance there was that he might come to HC. Much too big a fish for much too small a pond. I was at the Kimball serving when his parents came in. They got a standing ovation too. As for any chance of Alcindor coming to HC, I recall reading that he didn't much like his high school coach, Jack Donohue who had just been hired as head coach. I also recall reading that one of the very few Afro-American students at HC advised him not to come because he'd be isolated. In reality, the chances of him coming may have been slim and/or none, but whoever was writing for the Worcester Telegram didn't get the message. I remember seeing its big headline in the sports section: "Alcindor to Join Teixeira at HC."
