Not a good way to look at things, I know....but they could devote a billion of that endowment to athletics at a 4% growth rate and it'd cover 40 million in losses every year.
36 sports is way off the charts.

Stanford has an endowment of 28 with a B billion....college athletics are in some very rough waters today..... Field Hockey is the closest thing to a significant sport that was cut. Is there really a concern that Stanford cut a sport such as Men's Volleyball, which has 43 "D1" teams, including the likes of Lewis, Barton, King (TN), Lincoln Memorial, and McKendree, which may or may not be fake colleges but are all ranked in the top 20 in the country? www.ncaa.com/rankings/volleyball-men/nc/nc-mens-volleyball-rpi

I do, but c'mon....28 Billion dollahhs...that's Dr Evil type $$$ What I have seen speculated, is that this might have been done as a fallout from the Varsity Blues situation.

When will we wake up and make the same tough decisions regarding several of our programs?

We may have a different business model than Stanford.....
I've heard it said that in some of our sports the subsidy we get from the NCAA offsets a lot of the expenses and that we are attracting "full pay" student-athletes. Maybe someone has the facts on the matter. I'll bet Stanford spends a lot more on such sports than HC does
