What is your best guess, hoops?

It will not start on time. League games only starting 1-1-21 Ivy, then PAC 12 started it. The rest will probably follow.

There’s obviously no way college basketball will he played in calendar year 2020 given where colleges are on reopening. As for a second semester start, what exactly is going to make it safer to play basketball then than it would have been to play soccer or football or any of the other outdoor fall sports?

I highly doubt the college basketball season will start on time. The best case scenario, as it looks right now, is probably a shortened season which starts early in 2021. Even that however might not happen.

That would be great. Just can’t see it happening in time for mostly very healthy college basketball players who will be among the last to be eligible to get it. Are we all agreed that, absent a vaccine, playing hoops in January makes no more sense than playing football or soccer right now?

Am told by somebody in the business that vaccines would be available to frontline workers in healthcare possibly by the end of this year. More likely Jan/Feb of next year. The major issues are in phase III trials where the vaccine doses that go out would go to the highly-infected parts of the country (tough to test a vaccine without infected people around), and that's not the northeast part of the US currently.
Also, with limited quantities of the vaccine going to highly infected areas, healthcare workers, and then vulnerable population next-- in order of priority, understandably-- that puts college students and able-bodied younger folks down the list. Widespread vaccine adoption could be later next year in practicality.

This is a global pandemic. We aren't the only ones looking to get vaccinated. I have no clue what the distribution system is going to be, but HC basketball players might have to wait in line behind health care workers in other countries besides the ones in the US
-------------------------
HC would have been in better shape if the vaccine was available 4 months ago. The whole team could have been vaccinated and only used 5 doses

Ouch! (or touche?) Only an HC basketball fan would "get" this. Well done.

Season won't happen. Write it off and move on to 2021-2022.

I can see a league schedule, perhaps with current season ticket holders attending....dreaming, I know.....games with no fans could be our ticket to HC hoops....

Season won't happen. Write it off and move on to 2021-2022. What a denouement for our once robust six member senior class.

The coaches are pushing for the Nov 25 date in order to use the time from Thanksgiving through the semester break. One option being considered is playing the conference games first, then when they are finished in January, playing local OOC games before the tourney, which may be in bubbles. Hopefully fans will be able to go watch the men’s and women’s basketball teams play this winter Fans socially distancing at the Hart shouldn't be an issue.
